She let out a soft laugh. “Well, for Bowie’s sake, I guess we could give it a try.” She looked over her shoulder. “So long as I’m not being asked to move.”
Hank was walking toward them.
Ethan pulled her close. “If you are, I’ll go with you.”
Hank tucked his phone away. “Delaney said you have nothing to worry about. And congratulations on ridding the town of the succubus and saving its newest resident. She said if anything, that might qualify you for citizen of the month.”
Undrea shook her head, mouth open like she couldn’t quite believe it.
Hank put his hands on his hips and tipped his head at the koi pond. “Might want to get that thing cleaned out tomorrow.”
Undrea nodded. “I’ll, uh, make sure I do that.”
“You folks have a good night.” He glanced at his brother. “Come on. Ivy will be happy to have me home early.”
Titus nodded and started walking. “So will Jenna.”
Mattie, who was all smiles, grabbed at Pandora’s sleeve. “That’s our cue too.” She wiggled her fingers at Undrea and Ethan. “Talk to you later.”
A couple of minutes later, they were gone, leaving Ethan, Undrea, his mom, and Sarah Jane alone again.
With his arm around Undrea’s waist, they walked back to the porch. “Mom, do you have any issues with Undrea being a siren? And with her being in my life?”
“She saved your life.” His mom clasped her hands together in front of her. “My only issue would be if she’s not in your life.”
He laughed and looked at Undrea. “Are you okay with my mom being this bossy?”
Undrea snorted. “I’m good with it.”
“Ethan James Edmonds, I am not bossy.” His mom had her hands on her hips now. “But if you don’t take that girl ring-shopping immediately, you will be in trouble.”
He shrugged and shook his head, happy to see Undrea laughing. “I tried to give you an out.”
She nodded. “You did.”
“Now you’re stuck with me. And her.” And the enormous ring he would happily buy her. He’d spend the rest of his life spoiling her, if that’s what she wanted.
“Stuck,” his mother muttered. “You’re a rotten child.” She laughed. “I always told you there were a lot of fish in the sea.”
He nodded. “I just never guessed mine would be a mermaid.”
