The Words(73)
Author: Ashley Jade

Too bad we don’t have any moments to spare right now. “We’re late—”

The first swipe of his tongue is a slow, languid tease along the length of my slit that makes me choke.

Groaning, he spreads me with two of his fingers. “Fuck. That’s good.”

The second is a ravenous lash of hunger that lights every nerve ending of mine on fire. “Holy shit.”

He simply laughs between long licks that drive me out of my freaking mind.

“Don’t stop,” I whisper. “Don’t you dare stop.”

Tugging my hips forward, he buries his face between my thighs. Feasting.

My hands brace the door behind me for balance and I moan his name.

A little too loud.

Anxiety tightens my chest with my next thought.

“We have to keep this under wraps.”

I can’t lose my job.

His hungry gaze flicks up to meet mine. “No more fucking in public. Got it.”

My stomach twists with remorse. “Poor George.”

Safe to say he’s no longer talking to me. Not that I can blame him.

A sharp bite on my inner thigh makes me hiss.

This time, when Phoenix looks up at me, his stare is downright lethal. “Do not ever say his name, or any other guy’s name, while I’m playing with your cunt.”

“Or what?” I challenge.

“You don’t get to do this.”

He sweeps a long path up my pussy that ends with a deep pull of my clit.

I quiver, turning to putty against him. “Oh—”

A loud bang on the door makes me jolt.

“Have you seen Phoenix?” Chandler bellows. “He’s not answering his phone or his door.”

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I motion for Phoenix to stop, but he ignores me. Asshole.

“He’s…” Oh god. He’s probing my hole with his tongue, stretching me. “Eating.” I let out a shaky breath. “Downstairs.”

“Well, tell him to hurry up,” Chandler grumbles. “We have to be at the venue in fifteen minutes.”

As his footsteps fade, I give Phoenix a sly smile. “Hurry up.”

He lifts his head and the sight of his hooded eyes, messy hair, and sharp jaw glistening with my wetness is nearly enough to make me unravel. “You’ll come when I decide.”

Slowly, he slides one of his long fingers inside me. I draw in a sharp breath when he retreats and promptly plunges back in. “Don’t stop. Please.”

Pressing a soft kiss to my pussy, he gives me a dark grin. “I like it when you beg, Groupie.”

I hate him.

Ugh…but his cock.

His mouth.

I dig my fingers into the back of his neck. “Please.”

“Keep begging,” he rasps, and the vibration makes me mewl.

“Please.” He suckles my clit and I swear I see stars. “Pretty please—”

“If Phoenix is eating, then what are you doing?” Chandler booms from the other side of the door.

I propel into his jaw as an endless surge of pleasure engulfs me. “I’m coming.” My fingers coil in his hair, gripping for dear life as I explode. “I’m coming right now.”

“Make it snappy,” Chandler barks, and then his phone rings. “Shit. It’s Vic. I’ll meet you downstairs in the lobby.”

Phoenix stands a moment later. The arctic expression on his face throws me.

I’m about to ask what his problem is, but he sweeps his thumb over my bottom lip, smearing my lipstick. “I expect this mouth to be wrapped around my dick later, buddy.”

With that, he stalks out of the room, but not before I catch a glimpse of the hurt in his eyes.

The irony of Phoenix— Mister I Don’t Want Shit To Get Complicated—being upset about me only wanting him for sex is comical.

I’m yanking my leggings up to meet Chandler downstairs when it occurs to me.

If I really wanted to ruin Phoenix Walker...all I have to do is break his heart.

Just like he did to me.

CHAPTER 49

LENNON

“What’s that?” I question as I enter the elevator behind Phoenix.

He’s been staring at the same packet of papers ever since we left the venue.

After looking around the empty elevator, he pulls something out of his pocket.

I do a double-take when I see the reading pen I bought for him.

“It’s the launch plan and recording schedule for our upcoming album.” He averts his gaze. “I think. Haven’t been able to read it fully yet.”

My chest aches as it becomes painfully clear why he’s been staring at the same document for so long.

“No one knows about your dyslexia…do they?”

Eyes narrowing, he reaches across me and slams the emergency button. “No one except Storm…and you.” Annoyance clashes with discomfort on his face. “I’d appreciate it if you’d keep your fucking mouth shut.”

Even though I came here for revenge, I’m still a good person with morals.

Just like my father raised me to be.

Which means there are lines I won’t cross.

Telling the world Phoenix has a learning disability is one of them.

Although I do think he should tell people about it.

“Having dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed of. It—”

“I don’t need people finding out I’m stupid,” he growls.

Whoa. He’s got it all wrong.

I open my mouth, but he doesn’t give me the chance to speak. “People take advantage of weak people.” The tendons in his neck strain against his skin as he steps into my space. “The label already treats me like a goddamn puppet. I don’t need to make it easier for them to control me. I give those assholes everything I have so they can fatten their bank accounts.” Rolling up the document, he shoves it into the back pocket of his jeans. “But I’m not giving them that part of me.”

I turn this over for a bit because there’s a lot to unpack here. On some level, I understand what he means.

People do take advantage of weak people. Especially when money and power are thrown into the mix.

But Phoenix isn’t weak. Or stupid.

“You are many things.” Reaching up, I cradle the side of his face. “But stupid isn’t one of them.”

My heart hammers in my ribs. Even though I shouldn’t say the next words, I know he needs to hear them.

“As far as the record label is concerned, it might be their chessboard, but you’re Phoenix fucking Walker. You get to decide whether or not to play the game. And if you don’t want to? Leave the damn table. Trust me, they’ll follow…because there is no one else like you out there.”

There never will be.

I knew from the first second I laid eyes on him that he was special…and that hasn’t changed.

My stomach flutters when he trails his fingers up the side of my neck and our gazes collide.

I feel the contact everywhere.

His voice is such a low rasp I almost don’t hear it. “I miss you.”

Before I can process what he’s saying, his mouth is on mine, claiming me.

My pulse accelerates when he slams me against the wall, his hands roaming over every part of my body and his erection digging into my stomach.
