The Dangerous One(57)
Author: Lori Foster

“Now, what fun would that be?”

Danny grew belligerent. “I have a suggestion, too.”

“Oh?” Humoring him, King said, “I’m anxious to hear it.”

“Let me grab her for you, you can have all the fun you want and then kill her. Tell everyone you bought her place and she moved away. Who would ever know?”

“Hmm.” King considered it. “I could get her to sign it over before I finish her off.”

Remmy asked low, “Is it really worth the risk, just to have a little fun?”

Turning to Danny, King clasped his shoulder and laughed. “I have to take my pleasures where I can, don’t I, Giggs?”

   “You’ve earned them—and then some.”

Fresh alarm went through Remmy. The thought of killing Danny suddenly held more appeal.

“But not yet.” Tossing back the rest of his drink, King started away. “You can both head out now. Remmy, if you hear from her, let me know. In the meantime, we’ll let the girl miss you a little.”

   “But your package,” Danny protested.

“I’ll stall a little longer. It’s fine. No one would dare cross me.”

Glad to get away from them, Remmy headed for the door.

   Reluctantly, Giggs followed.

Right as they stepped through the doorway, King spoke again. “Although, it might not hurt to toy with her a bit.”

Danny’s pale blue eyes lit up, the psychotic prick.

Without making it clear who he addressed, King said, “I’ll let you know what I decide.”

The guard, who stood there waiting on them, gestured for them to precede him up the stairs.

Remmy wasn’t sure what King was thinking, but he knew whatever it was, Danny was all for it. Now what?

CHAPTER NINE

JODI COULDN’T TAKE her eyes off Hunter. Man, he was put together fine, all long, thick bones layered in firm flesh and flexible muscle gained from physical activity. Real muscles, not the kind built from weight lifting and supplements.

The hair on his body enhanced everything, shadowing the groove between his firm pecs, dividing his flat abdomen and disappearing into a pair of loose, soft flannel pants that hung low on his lean hips.

Half sitting, Jodi put the laptop on a nightstand, then stretched out on her side again. With one hand, she smoothed out the navy blue sheets. She figured they had to be high quality or something, given their softness. His quilt was incredible, a geometric design of blues and greens that somehow blended beautifully. She’d folded it to the bottom of the bed. Obviously, he paid a lot more attention to the little details than she did. “I really like your bed.”

“I like seeing you in my bed.”

She grinned at his quick comeback, and the gravelly timbre of his voice. From the start, Hunter had amused her with his wit. “Maybe you’ll like being in this big old bed with me?”

“Guaranteed.” He turned the lock on the door and stepped toward her, walking to her side of the bed and sitting behind her, near her hip.

Confused, Jodi looked over her shoulder, but paused at finding him transfixed by her butt again. Who knew her scrawny behind could fascinate a big, gorgeous guy like Hunter?

He lifted a hand, lightly touched her shoulder, as if savoring the texture of her skin, and then trailed his fingertips down her side to the dip of her waist, over her hip, the curve of one cheek and down her thigh to her knee. “I’ve never seen anyone as sexy as you.”

His touch had sent her heart into a gallop, but at his comment, she laughed. “Yeah, right.”

“Don’t do that,” he said simply. “I know what I know. You don’t see it, but...” His fingers trailed back up her thigh, then over her behind until he opened one large palm to entirely encompass a cheek. “Perfect curves in a small package.” His voice lowered. “I love your ass.”

Yeah, she could kind of tell. “Want me to take off my underwear?”

Briefly, he closed his eyes before saying, “No. When I want them off, I’ll do it.”

He didn’t want them off now? Well, that was insulting. “What if I want them off?”

Still with his hand lightly fondling her cheek, his gaze lifted to hers. “Do you?”

Not really. “I want to get on with things.” The wait was doing her in, making her more nervous by the second.

As if he understood, he turned her to her back and got into the bed with her. “Sorry, seeing you like this... You’re hotter than my imagination figured.”

“Hunter,” she chided, liking how it felt to be stretched out with him. “You don’t need to say things like that.”

“I’ll say whatever I want.” He cupped her face and finally, finally gave her a kiss that started out searching, but quickly turned scorching. The way he devoured her mouth had her curling toward him, getting as near as she could. He smelled faintly of soap and shampoo now, some subtle, masculine scent that she didn’t mind, but she preferred him a little sweaty.

Probably not something she should say, though.

Honestly, she wasn’t sure what she should say during sex. She’d always imagined that it’d be rushed, fast and rough, and if it came to it, if she got put in a bad situation, she’d withstand it and—

Hunter turned to his back, scattering her thoughts when he tugged her up and over him, so that she rested on his chest. One of his hands was at the back of her head, gently keeping her mouth right there so he could continue licking, exploring, making her nuts, while the other hand tracked a slow path back down her spine.

Seriously, the man did seem drawn to her butt. In the future, if she wanted his attention, she’d drop her shorts and see what happened.

After a few heated moments, his mouth moved to her throat, and—ho, boy—that felt incredibly good. Warm and damp, sending tendrils of sensation all through her body to land in key places—like her breasts, her belly, and lower...between her thighs. “I like that,” she murmured, tipping her head so it’d be easier for him. She hadn’t known a neck could be so sensitive.

“Keep telling me what you like.” In another move, he returned her to her back and looked down at her with an expression both heated and tender.

“You don’t have to be so careful with me. I won’t break.”

“I care about you, so I’ll always be careful.”

Since she was staring into his eyes, she didn’t realize he was working up her shirt until his bare hand covered her breast. Whoa.
