A mass of dark clouds floats inside the globe as Kareim moves the tip of his staff in circles above it, and the message inside becomes clear. I gasp, covering my mouth with my hand.
“That’s right,” Kareim says, grinning, enjoying the pure horror on my face. “When you directed the souls of the dead from the Cemetery of Doom into the King of Flames, you took something away from Samael. The archangel who guards the gates to both Heaven and Hell, and to whom those souls belonged. He’d made the dead into what they were, and they were his to command. You not only trespassed, but also stole from him. He won’t just let that go. So you see, Cerys Dark, Samael wants his property back, or something in return. And while he may not be Apophis or Orion, he is as close to Divinity as Lucifer.” Kareim steps closer, his mouth moving in an ugly way as he rounds the words. “He. Is. A. God.”

“But there might be a way to avoid disaster,” he continues, relishing it. “Samael sent Marayke and me to offer you a deal.” He grins wider. “You won’t like it, but it will save your lover a devastating war.”
