After untying the open end of the sock and removing the contents, pull apart the sock’s closed end along the white stitching. Now you’ve got a MagicSleeve®! (NOTE: you should be able to open the closed end by pulling with both hands, but if any of the stitches refuse to budge, cut them with a scissors.)
Lay the MagicSleeve® flat on a hard surface so the plastic windowpocket is on top.
If you look into the windowpocket, you’ll notice that the surface of the MagicSleeve® beneath it has a round opening lined with a rubber gasket. This is called the contact opening.
Unzip the windowpocket and push the marble inside until it’s sitting in the contact opening, then zip the pocket shut.
Pull the MagicSleeve® on like…a sleeve! It doesn’t matter what side of your forearm the windowpocket is on—as long as you can feel the marble against your skin through the contact opening, the marble can process your body heat. (NOTE: MagicSleeves® are one-size-fits-all, but if you find that the MagicSleeve® impedes your circulation, we suggest you purchase a MagicSleeve XL®, available wherever CURIO® products are sold.)
Your CURIO® will emerge from the marble after somewhere between 75 and 125 hours of being in direct contact with your body (+ up to another 24 hours of being out of contact with your body). The more regularly you wear the MagicSleeve®, the sooner your CURIO® will emerge.
Within just a few hours of continuously wearing the MagicSleeve®, you’ll be able to see through the windowpocket that a faint black jot or squiggle—like a cursive y or g—has begun to show through the pink sheen of the marble’s casing. This is great! It means the gears of your CURIO’S® autoconstructive mechanism have begun to spin. Over the next 75–125 hours of contact with your body, the jot/squiggle will enlarge and embolden, eventually transforming into a variety of interesting shapes. This is called the tattoo phase, and when your CURIO® has entered the tattoo phase, it means that its autoconstruction is proceeding smoothly.
As the hour of emergence nears, you’ll see brighter colors and might even be able to distinguish CURIO® body parts inside the marble. At this point, you should either wear the MagicSleeve® inside out (windowpocket window against your skin, contact opening open to the air), or remove the sleeve entirely and either a) take the marble out of the windowpocket and set it in the marbleslit of a PillowNest® (sold separately), or b) place the MagicSleeve® in a shoebox lined with soft material (e.g. T-shirts, socks, etc.). If you do choose to continue wearing the MagicSleeve®, be sure to remove it before going to bed. Nascent CURIOS® are fragile, and if emergence occurs while you’re sleeping, you may, if you’re wearing the MagicSleeve®, accidentally roll over and destroy your nascent CURIO® before you’ve even had your first chance to interact.
(NOTE: Once the CURIO® has begun to show its brighter colors inside the marble, you’ll have about 24 hours to remove the marble from the MagicSleeve® or turn the MagicSleeve® inside out, so there’s no need to rush or panic when you first see the brighter colors. HOWEVER, because it may have been a while since last you paid attention to the marble, WE STRONGLY ADVISE THAT ONCE YOU’VE DETECTED BRIGHTER COLORS, YOU TAKE THE PROPER ACTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.)
Your CURIO® will emerge from the marble within 24 hours. Don’t worry if you’re not around for its emergence—it’ll be fine in the PillowNest® (sold separately), or even the shoebox (as long as you’ve properly lined the shoebox with soft material). If you’re not around for the emergence, though, please keep the PillowNest®/shoebox closed for the safety of your nascent CURIO®. If you ARE around, you’re in for a real treat. The marble, having been separated from its source of unmediated human body heat, will have grown cold and, owing to the drop in temperature, will allow your nascent CURIO’S® built-in, cutting-edge SECRT® apparatus to complete the last phase of its autoconstruction. Once complete, the apparatus will send electrochemical signals to your nascent CURIO’S® musculoskeletal system that will trigger a series of vigorous convulsions. If you’re looking closely, you’ll see the marble vibrate in fits and starts. This could last for as many as ten minutes, or as few as two. In the course of its vigorous convulsing, your CURIO’S® claws will puncture microsacs of nontoxic fluid embedded within the marble’s inner wall. Upon making contact with the inside of the marble’s resilient pink casing, the fluid will chemically react with the casing, causing it to become extremely brittle where before it was rubbery and resilient. As your nascent CURIO® continues to convulse, the casing will crack and, within minutes, your CURIO® will emerge from the shattered marble’s remains, convulsing less vigorously, and searching for a master.
If you can’t be there for your nascent CURIO’S® emergence, as many surely can’t (we all have LIVES, and CURIOS® are built to be, amongst other things, hassle-free), don’t worry about it. When you return from wherever you were when your CURIO® emerged, it’ll be there waiting for you beneath the dome of the PillowNest® (sold separately) or the lid of the shoebox, either sleeping or munching at the nutritional remnants of its marble, but in any case ready for a quick rinse in the sink and a master to entertain.
Your Nascent CURIO®
Whether you purchased a standard double-legged/pale-black/longtail CURIO EmergeRig®, a super-deluxe single-legged/violet-orange/no-tail CURIO EmergeRig®, or any other product from our line of version 3.0 EmergeRigs® (excluding LuckTest EmergeRigs®), your CURIO® is guaranteed by Graham&Swords Corporation to have the colors, limb count, presence/absence of tail, and length of tail (when applicable) indicated on your EmergeRig’s® label. If your CURIO® emerges from its marble with any features that differ from those listed on the label, you are entitled to exchange it within five weeks of purchase. Just bring your receipt and defective CURIO® to the point of sale. The retailer will deactivate the product and ship it to Graham&Swords Corporation, which will send you a brand-new marble by US Post.
Regardless of the type of EmergeRig® you purchased, your nascent CURIO® will reach full physical maturity within three weeks of emerging, so enjoy its nascence—it’ll be over before you know it!
Imprinting
These first weeks—especially the first seven days—are extremely important. Your nascent CURIO® will imprint on whoever most regularly supplies it with body heat. Once it has imprinted, it will not only be mastered by the person on whom it has imprinted for the rest of its existence, but if prevented from accessing that person’s body heat for too long a time, it will begin to malfunction and, eventually, automatically deactivate. Since it’s your CURIO®, you should be sure that, for at least the first seven days, it receives little if any exposure to the body heat of anyone other than you.
