Vanquished (Angels and Vampires, #1)(6)
Author: Jo Michaels

“Does that feel good, sweetheart?”

“You know it does.”

“I do expect you to return the favor.” He laughed again.

“Any time. Any day. Forever and ever.” She slowly turned so she was facing him and snaked her arms around his shoulders, letting the towel between them fall away.

He groaned as her lips connected with his, and he pulled their bodies flush as he kissed her harder, deeper, more passionately.

Her heart rate tripled as she melted into his embrace, and when his hand slid between her legs, she gasped. The next thing she knew, he was pressing her back into the shower and lifting her legs, wrapping them around his waist, and pushing her against the shower wall.

He set her down only a moment so he could remove his own pants and take off his shirt. He threw them out of the shower and turned back to her, the planes of his muscles making a perfect V to the darkness of hair surrounding his erection.

At the sight of his arousal, her own desire grew, and the tingling between her legs needed to be sated. When he lifted her legs once again and wrapped them around his waist, she tilted her head back and closed her eyes, waiting for him to enter her. It didn’t happen for a long moment, and she lifted her head again to look at his face to see what the holdup was.

“Do you want me, my love?” His eyes had once again turned from chocolate to crimson, and his mouth was slightly ajar, his eyes locked on her throat, sharp incisors fully extended.

Every time they made love, his beastly side took over, and she knew he fought a war within himself to keep from consuming her whole. Up until then, he’d never lost control, and it had been several thousand years. She did worry that because they were in a city of sin, his morals would be lost amongst the crowds, and his thirst would take over. It was only because debauchery seemed to be contagious amongst mortals.

Though Vance wasn’t technically a mortal, he still succumbed to the mob mentality that was so common with man. She supposed it was because he’d lived so long without a soul.

“I do. I need you now. I need to feel your love.”

“Say please.”

“Please!” she answered.

He obliged, snaked his hands under her legs, held her open, and thrust upward, entering her fully.

They fit together perfectly, as they always had, and as he moved, the pleasure built between her legs. She urged him on and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, digging her nails into his back.

His lips were on her neck, and his tongue snaked out, touching the tender skin there, licking it, suckling it, and driving her to new heights. Every cell in her body responded to his touch and his kisses, and she soon found herself crying out his name as she reached the pinnacle of her orgasm. Right as her muscles contracted, his fingertips found the sensitive nubs where her wings were attached and pressed gently on the nerves there. A musical sound erupted from her lips, and she was sure if any humans heard it, they would’ve believed it to be a harpist with a beautiful voice to accompany the melody.

Her head dropped to his shoulder as she breathed out her relaxation, and he inhaled the air that left her lungs, taking it into his own. It was that action that brought about his release, and he drove into her faster, harder, and with more desperation than he ever had, pushing her against the wall, bringing her close to ecstasy once more. When he growled, her muscles contracted again, and they cried out their release in a song of love synchronization that flooded the room.

Light burst from her body, and he took it into himself—head back, eyes closed. It always happened that way, and she wondered if it was part of God’s plan to satisfy Vance’s hunger. His eyes lost their red tint, slowly returning to the darkness they were when the thirst was no longer present.

She curled her fingers through his hair, dragging the long locks forward, over his shoulder, and gazed at his serene face. “I love you.”

“And I love you. That was…”

“I know. As always, it was fantastic.”

“I wonder why people don’t do this all the time. It would be easy to forget to do anything else with something so pleasurable waiting to occupy one’s mind and body.” His lips pulled back.

“I’m not sure humans experience the same thing in the same way, my love. From what I understand, they don’t always find the pleasure as we do, and I’m positive it’s nowhere near as intense. We’re otherworldly creatures.”

“Dirty ones.” A chuckle rumbled out of him. “Looks like we both need a shower now.” He pulled out and put her on her feet, craning around to turn the water back on. An icy blast had them both yelping, but the water warmed quickly. “That was fun.” One side of his mouth quirked up.

“Can we just wash and get on with our day?” She mirrored his expression, love for him spreading through every limb, down to the soft tips of her feathers.

His black wings inched their way out, and he curled them around her, using them to pull her close once more.

“Again?” she asked as her skin heated.

In response, he crushed his mouth to hers.

They stepped out of the shower an hour later, shivering from the frigid water. He didn’t seem to be done with her, and he carried her to the bed, placed her carefully on the pillows, and devoured her body with his lips, diving into the overly sensitive cleft between her legs with his tongue.

As he worked his magic, her hands fisted in the sheets, and she arched her back, pressing herself to his mouth.

It didn’t take long for her to cry out once again, and he sat back on his knees, a huge smile on his face.

“Are you pleased with me, darling?” he asked.

She was breathless and couldn’t answer right away. All she could do was inhale, exhale, and try to clear the stars from her vision. He was the most amazing lover—better than any of the divine she’d coupled with. I guess there’s something to be said for having a little darkness lurking.

A moment later, he was crawling up the bed to lay beside her. He crooked his arm and rested his head on his hand, gazing at her face. “Are you ever afraid that we’re committing a sin when we make love?”

It wasn’t like him to contemplate sin. Ever. And she wondered where the question had come from even as she answered.

“I’m not sure God would’ve given us the ability to couple if it were sin. He doesn’t work that way.” She smiled.

Vance’s eyebrows drew together, and his mouth turned down. “It’s just that I can’t understand how something that feels so right is looked upon as a sin by mortals.”

“It’s not making love that’s a sin; making love is normal and natural—it’s lust that’s a sin. Lust isn’t about love.”

“You’re right. I guess I never thought of it that way.” He gave her another smile and rested his palm on her cheek. “That does make me feel better.”

She covered his hand with her own and nuzzled his palm for a long moment, but she knew they had work to do and couldn’t stay in bed all day. When she opened her eyes again to tell him so, her words were cut off by the serene look on his face. His head was back, his eyes were closed, and he looked as though he were bathing in divine light. There was no way she could bring herself to interrupt his ecstasy just yet.

Rather than say anything, she just watched him for a long time as he enjoyed the feel of his hand on her face and whatever divinity he was garnering from that.
