Chapter 13

CARLY

I watched as he tried to adjust himself. But yeah, he was naked and hard and there was no hiding the fact that Matt was packing a huge package under there. I mean, this guy’s cock meant business and it seemed to be pointing right at me. Maybe I could envision some bonuses to this little arrangement…

Not that I hadn’t seen his cock before, but it had been a while. And I could have sworn he watched me like a hawk as I stared at it. I had the funny feeling he’d pounce if I let him.

Stay focused, Carly. This was a business transaction, nothing more, nothing less.

Sadly, someone just needed to tell this information to my body. The way he had grabbed and swirled me around had been almost magical. I could have sworn I heard goddam bells in the distance. Until, of course, he realized what he had done. Then it was icy Matt Harris again.

Somehow, the years and distance between us hadn’t seemed to dull the passion we had once felt for each other. I had to remind myself that it had been a different time back then. I was no longer the innocent girl enamored with the older bad boy. Until I looked in his eyes, that is. That’s where I saw the fire that I had loved so much. I had to be careful to guard my heart. The last time I had let Matt distract me with his good looks, I had ended up a crying mess the day after he took my virginity. Even though I knew it hadn’t been his fault, my heart was still wary of being too trusting. Especially since he was concocting this far-fetched story of a fake fiancée for his mother. I really couldn’t understand it. What was the point? It wasn’t like he could keep up the charade for very long. I would be out of this godforsaken town as soon as my car was fixed. New York was already calling my name.

“So, what are those requirements of yours, my beautiful fiancée?” His deep rumbly voice asked me.

“Well for one, there will be no terms of endearment randomly thrown at me when not in the presence of your mother. Save that sappy shit for tonight.”

I was going for tough but I didn’t mean it. I adored sappy shit. It made my insides all bubbly. In fact, it was one of the reasons that my last boyfriend hadn’t lasted too long. He never said anything sweet to me unless we were in bed. And that was the last place I had wanted to hear sugary sweetness.

Matt smirked at my comment. I wasn’t sure he believed me but I had done my best. “You got it. No sweetness here.”

“So, what about my car then?” I asked. “Should we hustle up and get going over to the garage?”

Matt seemed to be somewhere off in his head. He stared. “Uh yeah, so I actually left a message for Joe at the garage last night and looks like he texted early this morning.” Matt said, casually scrolling through his phone. “Joe went there with his crew and took care of everything.”

“Really? Oh my goodness, that’s amazing, Matt! Thank you! Did he say when it will be ready?” I asked.

“It’s going to take most of the day to evaluate, but he said he’d touch base later tonight. Also, on the way out, he said he left a package for you at the front desk. Bunch of stuff that was apparently strewn across the ditch?” Matt continued casually, still reading from the text.

Oh god…just the thought of my stuff everywhere and people picking it up made me nervous. Hopefully it wasn’t a package of bras or tampons or something equally as embarrassing.

“Okay, well I’m ready to go when you are.”

I waited for Matt to get ready as I sipped my coffee and took in the view of the cove. Once he was dressed and packed up, we headed down to the lobby in silence. I found myself noticing every single detail in the flooring and the tapestries on the walls as we walked in silence. The Maple Cove Inn had once been a nice place, but time and lack of resources had made it nothing more than shabby. I bristled as the temperature in the lobby seemed to be cooler than upstairs.

“Cold?” He asked. “No worries, it’s fine.” I answered.

Matt didn’t give me a chance. “Oh please. It’s that stupid torn jacket of yours. Mrs. West was nice enough to have your clothes cleaned and dried, but there wasn’t much she could do about the fact that you are dressed for summer.”

I shook my head. There was no sense in arguing. “You’ll wear my coat again instead.” He continued.

Upon exiting the elevator, we caught sight of Mrs. West at the desk, fussing with her paperwork. Mountains of it actually; small ripped pieces, sticky notes, binders and folders, and not a computer in sight. I shook my head. Things in this town didn’t change.

“Oh, dear me…” She mumbled under her breath as we approached the desk. “There was a delivery a little while ago for you lovelies.” She had one curler hanging off the back of her head and she was still in her housecoat. Staying at the Inn was like being in your grandma’s house and having her wait on you hand and foot.

“It’s fine, Mrs. West, we can pick it up later.” Began Matt.

I was thankful for his attempt but really, I knew it was just his dedication to the cause of ensuring that nothing derailed me from dinner.

“Yeah, Mrs. West, we really need to get going. I have to go check on my car and …”

“Oh, that’s it, your car, dear!” She smiled as bright as the freakin’ sun on a summer day. Ducking down beneath the desk, she disappeared for a couple of moments. I rolled my eyes and turned my back to the desk as I hugged my arms to my body. “How very Maple Cove.” I grumbled.

“There you are, dear!” Mrs. West’s voice floated along towards me. “I believe this back massager is yours?”

“Um… Carly?” I heard Matt’s chuckle.

“What?” I grumbled, lost in my thoughts of my family and what shitstorm was awaiting me there.

“What the fu..?” I gasped.

“Oh, you should watch your language, young lady.” Mrs. West’s voice came rushing back to my ears as she walked back towards the office. “I know your family comes from good stock. Bless your late mother’s heart.” She clucked, shaking her head and walking away.

Holy fucking balls. Matt was standing there holding my goddamn Hitachi wand. I. Wanted. To. Die.

“Well, this is a fun little plot twist, isn’t it? Looks like my fiancée has toys I didn’t know about.” He smirked.

“Well maybe if my fiancé was able to satisfy me, I wouldn’t need any help!” I spat, reaching for my vibrator.

But instead of handing it over, Matt just grabbed my arm and pulled me back next to him. “Thank you, Mrs. West!” He called as he pulled me out the door. Wrapping an arm around my waist tightly, he pulled me in to his body and didn’t let go. His lips sent shivers up my spine and goose bumps across my skin as he spoke into the crook of my neck. “If you were my girl, that kind of behavior would earn you a spanking that you’d remember for a week.”
