She rose and looked down at him with that seductive smile of hers, and kissed him quickly. “But we’re here to watch the Northern Lights. It’s kind of hard to do once you start distracting me.”
He traced his hand down her spine. “That’s the whole point of distracting you. But you’ve got to admit, we’ve gone from one extreme to the next.”
She snuggled back against his side. “It will prepare you for heading to the ranch next week. Your sister was saying that temperatures were already dipping into the twenties.”
He fingered the box in his other hand that he had stashed beneath the pillow. “It will be nice to get back there and see everyone.”
“I’m sure Tank has missed you.”
“I was thinking that, when we head to Houston, maybe we could rent a place with some land and a barn—that way, Tank could come with us.” Colt had missed the stallion. And it would be nice to have some land to ride on again.
“Oh, that’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that?”
“Because that big brain of yours is busy discovering comets, and searching for life on other planets. That’s why you’ve got me to look out for you.”
“And I’m telling you, I never had any problems until you came along. I think they happen just so you can save me. It’s scientific, actually.” She smiled, and it was that smile that had done him in from the start.
“Avery,” he pulled out the box and held it out to her, “marry me.”
“Are you serious?” Her smile wavered and her eyes filled with moisture.
“Yes, I am. I want you to be mine forever. I want a family with you. I want to follow you to the ends of the earth, and even into the dark. Where you lead, I will follow. Marry me, and let me love you forever.”
“The ceremony has to be on the beach in the Azores. It’s where my grandparents got married, and—”
“Is that a yes?”
“Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you and have kids with you. I’m going to want a few. I know how rough it is being an only child.”
“Would half a dozen work for you?” Colt said. His heart had never been so full.
“That would work. In fact, we can get started on it right away. I’m due to get my shot when we get back to the States, and I’ll just stop it,” she murmured, shifting her lithe form so that she was straddling his lap.
He removed the ring from the box and slid it on her finger. “Now, it’s official.”
She leaned forward and kissed him until he no longer had need of breath unless it came from her. He murmured, “But what about the Northern Lights?”
“They’ll still be there when I’m done with you, but I find that I can’t wait any longer to warm up your nuts,” she teased.
Colt laughed, and then he groaned as Avery showed him in every way that mattered that she loved him like no other. And he knew that no matter where the road took them, they would conquer the world together.

About Anya
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Anya grew up listening to Cardinals baseball and reading anything she could get her hands on. She remembers her mother saying if only she would read the right type of books instead binging her way through the romance aisles at the bookstore, she’d have been a doctor. While Anya never did get that doctorate, she graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an M.A. in History.
Anya is a bestselling and award-winning author published in multiple fiction genres. She also writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and contemporary romance under the name Maggie Mae Gallagher. A total geek at her core, when she is not writing, she adores attending the latest comic con or spending time with her family. She currently lives in the Midwest with her two furry felines.
