Last Kiss Under the Mistletoe(52)
Author: Melanie A. Smith

So when she keeps going, I swear to god I’m going to die from the intense pleasure she’s giving me. It’s a point past orgasm I didn’t know existed, and I’ve never been so hard in my life. And when she starts tugging at my sack while she sucks in long, hard strokes, I swear I’ve gone to heaven.

“Stop, CJ,” I beg, wanting to bring her over the edge again with me. Wanting to be inside her when I come.

She relents, but only long enough to push me down on the bed. “Just let go,” she whispers before taking me in her mouth again.

I don’t argue. It feels too fucking good. But staying quiet as the most powerful orgasm of my life ricochets through me is difficult. But the high is that much more potent for it.

I lie there, panting, my eyes rolling back in my head for a solid minute until she slides up next to me and presses a kiss to my neck. I manage to open my eyes enough to see her gazing contentedly at me.

“That was for the cheesecake,” she says, then laughs quietly.

I manage a short laugh, too exhausted for much else. “Remind me to bring you cheesecake more often, then,” I joke. “Because that was fucking incredible.”

She rolls on top of me, putting her hands on my face and pressing her lips to mine. “You’re fucking incredible,” she says quietly and seriously. “And I love you, Drew Davies.”

I’m suddenly much more alert, and I roll us abruptly so she’s on her back. I kiss her with everything I’ve got, only breaking away when I’m out of breath.

“I love you, CJ Roberts.”

The time passes quickly and happily. I managed to arrange a gift for CJ I knew she’d love: a cultured pearl pendant necklace. And while she gave me a gorgeous new leather knife bag, it was her surprise gift later that night that I’ll never forget, a sexy Mrs. Claus outfit that we both thoroughly enjoyed. Quietly, of course. But before I know it we’re in the car, headed back to San Francisco on Saturday morning.

Matt drops us off at my apartment, telling us he’ll be back in a bit. We look at each other and shrug, not sure what to make of his strange promise.

But we pass the time making out on my couch, until we need a break to breathe anyway.

“Any word on when you have to go back to work?” CJ asks.

I shake my head. “No. I’ve got to sort out the whole press thing. Otherwise it’ll just be a fucking circus when I go back.”

“So what are you going to do in the meantime?” she asks.

I push out a breath. “I’m going to find a new place. Since apparently Amber found me here. Better safe than sorry until they work through the case against her and come to a verdict.”

“So, what, does that just stick Nick with the lease?”

I huff a laugh. “Would you care if it did?”

She shrugs noncommittally. And I know that’s CJ for “no,” even though she’s too nice to say it.

“I’ve already talked our landlord into letting us out of our lease early. We just have to pay two months’ rent and we’re good. And I got a text from Nick yesterday saying his home base is being moved to Sydney, so his company will pay out his two months. Works out for everyone.”

“He texted you to say he’s moving to Australia? That’s … interesting.”

“Actually, he texted to say Merry Christmas and that he forgives me for breaking his nose.”

“How very magnanimous of him,” she mutters, rolling her eyes.

“Yes, well, the bastard can think what he wants. I’ll never have to deal with him again, so I don’t give a shit.”

“Good, you shouldn’t,” she responds emphatically.

A knock on the door signals Matt’s return. I let her up reluctantly, a little annoyed with the dude for the first time in a few days. I was enjoying being back in our bubble after so much family time.

I rise to follow just as she lets him in. I shoot her a confused glance and she just shrugs.

“He wants to talk to us both.”

With a raise of my eyebrow, I gesture for him to enter. CJ and I settle back in our spots on the couch while he takes a seat in the armchair.

“So, what’s up?” I ask nervously.

Matt taps his knee like he’s trying to figure out how to answer that.

“I just wanted to let you know that you don’t have to worry about the Fishers bothering you anymore,” he says, avoiding my gaze and continuing to study his knee.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that.

“Matt,” CJ gasps. “What did you do?”

Matt finally looks up, shooting her a sharp glare. “I think you know.”

CJ looks between Matt and I. “But … why?” she finally asks.

Matt leans forward, silent for a moment as he puts together his answer.

“He can feel your visions, Cee. And the very first vision you were able to change the outcome of was for him. You don’t think that’s a coincidence, do you?”

“I … I guess I hadn’t thought about it too much.”

Matt snorts. “Well, I have. A lot. And I’m pretty sure it has something to do with fate. I’ll leave it at that.”

I look from Matt to CJ. And my intuition is yelling at me that I’m missing something here. Naturally, Matt would know about CJ’s ability. And it’s great that he’s helping me because she and I clearly have some sort of bond that they’ve never encountered before. But what could he have possibly said to the Fishers to make them not a threat? And what does one have to do with the other?

“I should go,” Matt says abruptly, as if he can hear the pieces clicking together in my mind.

“You can do it too, can’t you?” I ask sharply on a hunch.

CJ’s eyes go wide and she looks to Matt.

He turns back around slowly.

“No, I can’t see the future.”

But something about his denial isn’t totally … denying it. My brows scrunch together.

“Is there an alternative?” I ask.

Matt smirks at CJ. “Jesus, Cee, you didn’t tell me he was this smart.”

CJ looks at him hopefully. “I’ve Seen it, Matt. You can trust him.”

Matt looks up at the ceiling and huffs. Then he looks back at me. “Yes, Drew, there’s an alternative. An opposite, actually. She Sees the future, I See the past. And between you and me, there is a lot in Bronwyn Fisher’s past that she does not want to come to light. So trust me when I say she won’t bother you ever again.”

And with that, he leaves.

“That was … abrupt,” I remark of his departure.

CJ laughs and tugs my chin so I’m looking at her. “I think he knew we needed a minute alone.”

“A minute … a day … a year …” I mutter, not sure how long this is going to take me to process.

CJ smiles up at me. “Would it help to know you’re going to have much longer than that?”

My eyes finally focus totally on her. “Yeah? Did you See that?” I murmur, reaching up to cup her face.

“I feel it. And Matt telling you … well, to him that means you’re pretty much family now. Does that scare you?” she asks timidly.
