About We Need Diverse Books

We Need Diverse Books (WNDB) began as a hashtag in 2014 and has since grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with thirteen initiatives that advocate for increased diversity within the publishing industry—in the books we read, the authors and illustrators who create them, and the people who edit, design, produce, market, publicize, and sell them. Our mission is to create a world in which all young people can find themselves in the pages of a book.

With the stories in this anthology, you moved into magical worlds and found the magic inside you. You commanded the failing spaceship. You broke the powerful enchantment. You can change our worlds—both fictional and not—for good. This is the mission at WNDB. We invite you to learn more about WNDB programs at diversebooks.org.
