My Favorite Mistake(12)
Author: R.L. Kenderson

“Madeline, are you sleeping?”

“I was.”

“I’m sorry. It’s almost ten, so I figured you’d be awake.”

“It’s okay. I should get up anyway.”

“I forgot you went out last night with your friends. Did you have fun? Did you stay up late?”

The night before ran through my head, and I gasped.

“What’s wrong?” my mother asked.

“Nothing. Just a headache.”

There was no way I could tell her I was having déjà vu because this was how I’d woken up on Wednesday. Only this time, I was naked and tender between my legs from all the times we’d screwed the night before. I hadn’t had that much sex since college.

I bit my lip and whimpered in regret as I slowly turned over to look at Griffin. I wasn’t ready to face him, but it was pretty hard to avoid it when I was in his bed.

Last night, asking my best friend to have sex with me had seemed like an excellent idea. But I hadn’t considered how awkward I would feel the morning after. To make matters worse, I couldn’t claim I had blacked out from drinking. No, I remembered every naughty detail. And I had no idea what I was going to say to him.

A big sigh of relief escaped me when I saw him lying on his stomach, a pillow pulled over his head and his breathing deep and even.

“Honey, are you sure you’re okay?”

Not now, Mom.

I rolled away. “Can I call you back?” I asked softly.

“Why are you whispering? I can barely hear you.”

“Mom, I have to go,” I said instead of answering her. I didn’t care if she knew I’d slept at Griffin’s because she knew we had done it before. But I did care if my voice woke up Griffin.

I closed my eyes and buried my face in the pillow.

I couldn’t believe I had slept with my best friend.

I needed time to process this. Preferably at home and far away from Griffin.

“Madeline? Are you still there?”

And not when I was on the phone with my mother.

“I’ll call you back,” I said and hung up. I quickly turned my ringer to silent before she called me again.

I ordered my brain to focus, so I could concoct a plan of action.

I needed to sneak out of bed, get dressed, and leave, all without waking up Griffin.

The bed moved under me, and I knew it was too late.

I heard him and felt him move quite a bit. I willed my body to relax, so hopefully, he’d think I was asleep.

“Is your mom going to wake you up every morning you stay at my place?” he asked, snaking an arm around my waist. “It’s becoming a tradition.”

“Uh…” I couldn’t form a coherent answer when I felt Griffin’s hardness hit my bare butt.

I closed my eyes as I remembered pushing his pants down his hips and seeing his dick for the first time. I’d never thought he was small. He was too tall and muscular.

But I hadn’t expected his cock to be so huge either. The outline in his underwear hadn’t done him justice.

I had gotten so excited, I’d stolen the condom out of his hand, so I could be the one to put it on. I had wanted to touch it. I’d wanted to touch him.

My eyes flew open as Griffin pulled my leg up and over his hip. He put a hand between my legs and groaned behind me.

“Mads, you’re already wet. What are you thinking about?”

“I plead the Fifth,” I said.

He chuckled, and his hand disappeared. I briefly felt his body pull away from mine as he did something behind me.

I didn’t realize what he was doing until his chest was flush against me once more and he was sliding into me. I didn’t know why it hadn’t occurred to me that he could be getting another condom.

I shivered and squirmed on his thickness. “Holy shit,” I murmured.

Griffin’s big hand ran up my belly, and he cupped my breast and flicked my nipple. “Sorry, I forgot to warn you. I like morning sex.”

I didn’t get a chance to respond because he started thrusting inside of me.

And just like that, I went from wanting to sneak out to letting him take complete control of my body.

If I was lucky, he’d fall back asleep in post-coital bliss, and then I could leave. But until then, I might as well enjoy how good he made me feel because I already knew another orgasm was barreling toward me.

Griffin wasn’t the only one who liked morning sex.

My plan had worked well, except that I had fallen asleep too. I woke up forty-five minutes later and carefully snuck out of Griffin’s bed. After grabbing my clothes from his bedroom floor, I tiptoed out of the bedroom before getting dressed.

I was so worried that he’d wake up that I left the apartment without using the bathroom. Thankfully, the bar hadn’t opened yet, so I quickly used the restroom down there.

As I walked out, my stomach growled.

I hadn’t slept in this late in a long time. My body didn’t know what to do without its usual breakfast and morning coffee.

I swung by a drive-through that served all-day breakfast and ordered extra coffee. By the time I ate my food, drank my java, got home, and showered, I felt a little more like myself.

While I had scrubbed my back, I’d thought about what to do about the sleeping-with-Griffin situation, and I’d concluded the smartest thing to do was to pretend like last night—and this morning—never happened.

I usually wasn’t shy about sex, but even the thought of talking to my best friend about what we had done made my face heat. I had no idea what had gotten into me.

And that was why it was best to act like nothing unusual had happened.

Telling myself what I was going to do was one thing. Acting on it was another.

Ten minutes after I showered, Griffin called. And rather than answering like I would normally do, I ignored it.

He was going to think I was such a chicken.

“Bwak, bwak,” I said to myself.

Griffin

My phone rang, and I did my last rep before setting my barbell down.

I thought that maybe Madeline was finally calling me back, but it was her mom.

“Hello?”

“Hello, Griffin.”

“Hi, Nora. It’s not every day I get a phone call from you.”

“Have you talked to Madeline? I thought she said she was staying at your place last night, so she wouldn’t have to drive home. Did you see her this morning? I talked to her for a few minutes, but she said we’d talk later. And now, she’s not answering her phone.”

I chuckled. “She’s not answering for me either.”

“Well, that girl…” Nora said with exasperation.

“But, yes, she did stay last night. I did see her briefly, but then I fell back asleep. She left while I was out.” Simply left? Or did she sneak out?

“You are such a nice boy to let my daughter sleep on your couch.”

I cleared my throat. “Yeah, that’s me.”

“I suppose you’re no longer a boy, are you? To me, part of you will always be the kid who came over to my house and snuck food out of my cupboards.”

I laughed. “You always had the good stuff my mom wouldn’t buy.”
