While You Were Sleepwalking (Sprung Like Spring #2)(15)
Author: J. D. Light

"I was chubby and mean," I said dryly, curling my lip.

"You were perfect, and I fell in love with you immediately."

I licked my teeth, not sure if I should be smiling like a loon or not. "Love at first sight?"

He kissed me, sighing happily against my lips. "Definitely."

"This got sappy fast."

"Hmm," he said, letting his hands slide down my ass. "Would it help if I let you ride my face and then knot you until you pass out from pleasure?"

I shrugged, putting my nose in the air. "I think it's least you can do for taking advantage of me like this."

The knock on the door surprised us both, not at all something we were expecting on a Saturday night at eight o'clock.

"Who the hell do you think that is?" I asked, climbing out of Avery's lap and groaning at the very obvious hard on sticking out the top of my sleep pants. "And how the hell am I supposed to hide this shit?"

Avery smirked, holding out my T-shirt, and I snatched it out of his hand, pursing my lips.

He followed along behind me, both of us putting our clothes back on as we walked. I peered through the peephole, surprised to find Frost on the other side of the door sans adorable toddler.

"We gave all the kids back yesterday, right?"

Avery chuckled, shaking his head and opening the door.

"Is everything okay, Frost?"

The man pushed inside, immediately pacing across the floor and then back. "What have you done to me?"

"Uhm, can you clarify please?" Avery asked, glancing in my direction, clearly confused.

I didn't know what it was about the older man, but I found him funny. I knew he didn't mean to be, and I at least tried to keep my humor under control most of the time, but he was odd, and I really liked that about him.

"My new nanny." He flipped his hand in the air, turning and rolling his eyes. "Or should I be calling him a manny? Is that offensive? I'm too old for this shit."

Avery looked unsettled, continuously glancing at me like he expected me to have an answer for whatever the hell was going on here.

I cleared my throat, shrugging. "I guess ask him what he wants to be called?"

"Right. That's smart."

Frost continued pacing, mumbling to himself about never knowing anything anymore.

"Is there something wrong with your new manny?" Avery asked, hesitantly. "Is he… not doing his job?"

"No. No, he's great at his job. I was maybe… not quite prepared." He cringed, biting on his thumb. "I think I was expecting an old lady or something."

I smirked, starting to see the problem. "I'm guessing he's an omega?"

Frost turned suddenly, pointing his hand at me, his eyes going wide as he nodded. "Exactly. Very omega."

I bit my cheek, desperately trying to control of my amusement. His reactions were just so over the top. For a big bad alpha, he was kind of adorable.

"You should've warned me Avery," Frost said, throwing his hands in the air. "I get that you only have eyes for Archer. It's adorable really." Delivered dryly and in a way that made me less than entirely sure he actually meant that. "If you send a ridiculously gorgeous omega to an alpha's house to spend… all his time there, you warn the alpha that the man is… I'm way too fucking old to be lusting after my nanny."

I couldn't hold back my laughter any longer, and Frost cleared his throat while Avery tapped his fingers to his lips, fighting his own laughter.

Frost was always talking about being too fucking old for whatever, but the man was still in his forties. Granted, he was probably closer to fifty than forty, but still, hardly geriatric.

"Sorry," Avery said, shrugging. "I guess I didn't think it was relevant."

I frowned, glaring at my… best friend/baby daddy. He knew who the omega was, and clearly thought the man was attractive.

"Who is this fucking gorgeous omega?" I asked pursing my lips. Ridiculous or not, I didn't think that I liked the idea that Avery might've once been checking this man out.

"Riker."

I gasped, my jaw-dropping as I clutched my chest. "My baby cousin?"

"Baby cousin?" Frost squeaked, his voice high.

Avery shook his head, waving off Frost's hysteria. "He's twenty-four, he's not a baby."

"He's twenty-three!" I yelled, glaring at Avery.

Frost groaned, letting his head fall back on his shoulders. "To be honest, both those ages sound like babies to me."

"You're both overreacting," Avery said, sighing. "Do you need me to get you another nanny, Frost? Riker has his degree in child psychology, and he's wanting to open a daycare soon, so I thought this would be a good start. But if he isn't the right fit, I can find you another nanny."

"Don't you dare take him away!" Frost said excitedly, eyes wide.

"But I thought you —"

I stepped forward, shaking my finger at Frost. "Don't be taking advantage of my baby cousin."

Frost sighed, rolling his eyes. "Of course not. I'm way too old for him. I would've just like to have been warned… about some things."

He spun then, walking out the front door and shutting it behind him, the drama of the last few minutes forgotten.

"Shit," I said, shaking my head.

"Yeah," Avery said, clearly trying not to laugh.

"That man's adorably dense sometimes. Riker's gonna be the one taking advantage of him."

"Probably."

I blinked at the low lighting as I walked through my front door, confused by what looked like flickering candlelight on the walls. My confusion was compounded when I turned the corner and found a table set for two, with a velvet box sitting in the center.

"If this is what I think it is," I called into the apartment, not sure where Avery was, but pretty positive he was around. "You better be ready to fold me in half and fuck me until I think my legs are gonna fall off."

"Well," my brother said, standing frozen in the kitchen doorway. "I guess that's fair." He looked equally as disturbed as I felt. "I'm not sure which is more traumatizing, hearing all the things I just heard, or you witnessing the dry humping with Scout." He nodded, curling his lips between his teeth. "Let's call it even."

I sighed, shaking my head. "We're gonna fuck our kids up, aren't we?"

Evan shrugged, pushing his lips out to the side. "Just like our parents did us."

"Yay. Family tradition."

My brother didn't say another word, simply reached out, patting my shoulder uncomfortably and walked to the door, not even saying good bye as he left.

Avery was clearly amused when I turned to find him leaning against the wall by the kitchen entrance.

"So." He motioned toward the table, licking his lips. "I was gonna surprise you, but I made the mistake of asking Scout what kind of ring I should get, and he blabbed to Evan. I've been trying for twenty minutes to get rid of him. I guess I should've just called you and asked you to talk dirty to me."

I licked my teeth, my mouth quivering with the need to laugh. "I've always had a knack for clearing alphas out of a room."
