"That, I do," Sarah said, and they shared a quick kiss.
Calix met Rhett's eyes, and the love radiating in his gaze made his heart sing.
Dinner was relaxed, the staff serving delicious food and excellent wines. Calix had taken an Uber to work so he wouldn't have to drive home, and he'd actually be spending the night at Rhett's so they could celebrate Christmas with Levar and Henley. He allowed himself to drink, though for the first time in five years, he had no desire to get drunk.
"Thank you, darling," Milan said to the young butler who took his empty plate away.
The kid blushed adorably. "You're welcome, sir. Can I get you anything else?"
"I'd kill for an espresso. Think you could get one for me?"
Calix raised an eyebrow at Milan's tone, which was far more intimate and flirty than usual. What was he doing?
"Yes, sir." The poor kid's cheeks got even redder.
"Good boy."
If Milan hadn't been sitting right next to him, Calix would've missed it, what with how soft he'd said it. But the butler hadn't, and he almost tripped over his own feet as he hurried off.
"Milan," Calix said, a hint of warning in his tone.
Milan ignored him, watching after the butler until he'd left the room. "I'm just playing." He finally turned his attention to Calix. "I gotta get my kicks where I can find them, man."
"You need to get fucking laid."
Milan rolled his eyes. "Tell me about it. Not quite so easy for the president's brother-in-law, yeah?"
Right. That complicated things. "I understand, but you can't…" Calix lowered his voice even more. "You can't fuck a staff member."
"I know. I told you, I'm just messing with him. He's too fucking cute not to."
Calix shook his head. He'd let Del handle that one.
"Everything okay?" Rhett asked, and Calix turned toward him.
"Yes, sweetheart. Everything is more than okay."
The conversation flowed smoothly, and Calix was amazed at how well this eclectic group of men got along. No matter the difference in age, background, jobs, and whatnot, they showed deep respect and affection for each other. Even Kenn joined in the conversation, gently coaxed by Seth.
He was among friends, among family, and it was the best place in the world. Or maybe not the best, because that was at the side of the sweet man next to him. Even thinking about him filled Calix with love and happiness. Maybe they could celebrate Christmas Eve differently when they got to Rhett's place…and let Rhett have a little payback at Levar and Henley for all the times they'd been loud. Oh yes, Calix liked that idea.
"Hey," he whispered, leaning in toward Rhett so no one else could hear him. "I have an idea for something we could do when we get home."
He wiggled his eyebrows, and Rhett caught on immediately. "Yeah?"
Calix brought his mouth to Rhett's ear. "I'm gonna kiss every inch of your body, sweetheart. Make love to you and worship your body until you can't even remember your own name. And then when we're done…I'm gonna do it all over again."
Rhett's eyes had turned dark. "You're gonna make me scream, aren't you?"
Calix laughed, then kissed him. "All night long."
"I'm okay with that. Really, really okay with that."
