Playing a Player (Sweet Cravings #1)(60)
Author: Ivy Smoak

“See…” I whispered to Rory. “You don’t need a shirt.”

“He’s a lifeguard,” Rory whispered back.

“I don’t see your point.”

Suddenly the lifeguard started laughing. “Wow.” He was staring at the ice cream flavors listed on the outside of our storefront. “You guys are going to kill it here.”

I was pretty sure I couldn’t smile any harder. “You like the names?”

“They’re hilarious.”

“And here my husband didn’t believe in them.” I hit my hip against his.

Rory held me to his side. “I just wanted to make sure we weren’t going to scare people away.”

The lifeguard shook his head. “It’s great. I’ll have a Dirty Sanchez, as long as you promise it’s actually ice cream,” he said.

“I swear it’s just chocolate,” Rory said as he went to get him a scoop.

“What’s your name?” I asked. “You’re our first customer and I want to ingrain this in my memory forever.”

The lifeguard laughed as he handed me some cash. “J.J. I’m sure I’ll be stopping by again soon. I’ll be working here all summer.”

“Well, it was nice meeting you, J.J. I hope you enjoy your Dirty Sanchez!”

He laughed. “Thanks.”

I squealed as he walked away. “We did it! We’re a success!”

Rory smiled down at me. “One customer doesn’t pay the bills. But…we officially opened our first place together.”

“And did you see what he was wearing? He was shirtless!”

He laughed. “I noticed.”

“So…you should take yours off.”

He lifted up our Now Hiring sign. “Maybe after we hang this up.”

I sighed and put my elbows on the counter. “He was very handsome you know. He’s going to make all the girls drool this summer.”

“As long as he’s not making you drool.”

I shook my head. “We both know I’m much more attracted to sexy chefs.”

J.J. disappeared down the boardwalk, but not before I noticed how quickly he ate his ice cream. Our first customer was a great success. And even though I wasn’t checking him out, I could tell he was definitely going to break some hearts this summer. I was so glad to be out of the dating scene. I’d married the love of my life and I couldn’t be happier.

Rory hung our Now Hiring sign up outside and I got even more excited. It was really happening. Our dreams were coming true. And I knew this was going to be a summer to remember.

Keira’s right…that lifeguard is going to break some hearts. And it’s going to be hotter than a summer night. CLICK HERE to read all about it (and see more of Keira and Rory) in Those Summer Nights!

The easiest way to get over someone is to never see them again, right? So when my ex stomps on my heart and throws it into the ocean…I decide to spend my summer on the opposite side of the country.

And this summer is all about me. Mending my broken heart (screw all men). Figuring out what I want to do with my life (a life that thankfully does not include my ex). And trying to better myself (does eating ice cream count?).

But all of my perfect planning comes to a halt when the sexiest lifeguard in existence asks me out. I have to say no. It doesn’t matter that he’s built like a Greek god, has eyes the color of the ocean, or is hotter than a summer night. I’m going to say no, I swear. He’s going straight into the friend zone. Although, I’m pretty sure he’d be more delicious than any flavor of ice cream. Can’t I put him in the friend zone after just one taste?

Rosie and Connor have lost their spark in the bedroom. But when the house next door finally sells, their love life takes an unexpected turn.

The new neighbors, Phoenix and Sean, turn out to have a lot more in common with them than they originally thought. Rosie and Phoenix bond over their husbands' neglect in the bedroom, while Connor and Sean agree that their wives only use sex to manipulate them.

When the girls run into an eccentric couples therapist, they dismiss her advice as ludicrous. But they begin to worry that the couples therapist is right when things don't improve at home, and her warning starts to weight on them: if they don't do something soon, their husbands might leave them.

The women are determined to do whatever it takes to save their marriages. But what they don't know, is that Connor and Sean have a plan of their own.

And it's going to get messy...

A Note From Ivy

I’m a kid at heart. I truly try my best to not act like an adult at all times. Whether it’s a Nerf gun fight with my husband or running around outside. This story was never just about how to play a player…it was about never getting too old to play in the first place.

This novel was inspired mainly by New Girl. I’ve loved that show ever since it aired, and I wanted to write a roommate story too. Throw in a little How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and there you have Playing a Player in all its hilarious glory. At least, I laughed hysterically while writing it. I’m pretty sure the whole time I was writing this my husband thought I was crazy because I kept laughing out loud.
