“Stick around, Sebastian.” I tugged a hank of his hair. “And we can find out together.”
“All right.”
A love song filled the hollow places of my body like a faraway wolf calling to the lonely moon. Sebastian had a heart's song of his own and for now, our unblended music was melodious enough to keep us together. I wondered… Would our voices continue to harmonize until we sang as one?
I looked forward to finding out.
The reassuring thud of Sebastian's heart beating against my palm served as a soundtrack for now.
Yes, I thought.
This little wolf is mine.

About the Author
Z. A. Maxfield is a fifth generation native of Los Angeles, although she now lives in the Inland Empire.
She started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back. Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends.
If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four manages to find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can do if you give up housework.”
