Delilah's Scandal (The Cove Sisters Trilogy #2)(41)
Author: Sienna Mynx

“What are you doing?” she asked. “We were fine.”

“I want you to be comfortable,” he said.

“But I’m not a princess. I can lay with you on dirty sheets. I just had a lot of you, uhm, inside of me, so I went to, uhm...you know.”

“Stop talking. Stop,” Maverick walked over to her and kissed her brow. “We’re good. I don’t need you on dirty sheets to know we’re fine.”

She nodded.

He cupped her face. “You’re not ready for this, are you?”

“I didn’t say that,” she stammered.

“This thing between us is happening too fast. We need to slow down, get to know each other. Trust me, I understand.”

“I don’t want to slow down. I just want a little more relaxation and less logic, you know?”

“It’s whatever you need. We don’t have to show or tell anyone about this,” he kissed her lips. “When I say I want you to be mine, I’m just saying I want you, Delilah. You. I want whatever you can give me right now.”

“Thank you, Maverick,” she said. She took his hand, and they went to bed.

He pulled the cover over them to protect her. “I think we should finish what we discussed earlier. Maybe I start with Camille. You know about Melissa, my wife, but I want to explain about Camille. The entire story.”

“If you want to?” she said. She moved closer and laid her head upon his chest. He shared everything. For Maverick, the story began with the eager and feisty cadet who chose him to be her mentor. Tough as nails, he respected her guts and enjoyed their banter. He thought it was all innocent. However, his wife saw it differently from when she saw the two of them were paired together. According to Melissa, Camille wasn’t that great of an actress. The constant jibs and jabs and back forth banter between the two was some sort of foreplay that Melissa found disrespectful. It was hard for Maverick to admit to how badly he’d hurt his wife and how hard he worked to fix it. Still, he shared his truth with Delilah to gain her trust. He graduated to explaining the death of Melissa and his daughter. He told her about the mental toll it took on him. Camille understood Maverick’s rage issues, his hallucinations, and nightmares. Camille said it was grief. Maverick had never lost anything because he came from nothing. The trauma of losing Melissa still cut deep. And that was where his truth took a darker turn. Maverick pulled Delilah into his world by sharing his inner conflict.

Maverick joined a tactical unit of force. They were known as the ‘renegades.’ Unlike a SWAT team, their department conducted very targeted raids with military precision. Everything was sanctioned by the Mayor to deal with rising gang violence, they moved in silence, and many other officers knew little about their missions. They were a family, and Maverick was the leader. They could bend the rules; in fact, Maverick felt as if they were incentivized to do so. It was his fateful decision that killed most of the members on his team. He was the one who trusted an informant and sent Camille into danger without cover. All of it was done to gain the evidence he needed for a warrant. It was his call. It was always his call when he kept their little illegal searches off the books. Camille told him the system was broken. Real lives were at risk. How many times had they’d stop the trafficking of young girls or the recruitment of impressionable youths into violent crime?. The ends justified the means. So Maverick bent the law for the greater good, he reasoned. And Jose Garcia used Maverick’s ego to his advantage. He killed Stephen and Alejandro but tortured Camille before shooting her in the head. The bullet grazed her skull, yet the damage was done. She died, and Maverick carried her ghost and his wife’s ghost with him as penance.

Delilah was surprised that he said he saw their ghosts even during the day. That his wife and ex-lover tormented his dreams. That he kept seeking forgiveness, and they kept offering it, but still, it wasn’t enough to release him. Maverick always seem to be in control of himself and his emotions when around her. It helped her understand his outburst in court and the drunken state she found him in earlier. She nearly confessed her secrets about a school counselor that won her friends’ trust and abused it in the worst possible way. Share with him the story of how the adults couldn’t prove that he had done what he done to her friends, and the counselor escaped justice. The plan she devised to get revenge was a deep secret that haunted her still. But she’d save that conversation for later. Instead, she made love to him again because it felt right.

THE NEXT MORNING

Delilah woke on her side while wrapped in her lover’s arms. He was to the back of her, applying kisses to her neck while he squeezed her breast. “Morning,” he said in her ear.

“Mmm, what time is it? Feels like we just went to sleep,” she groaned.

“Early. What time does Noah wake?” he asked.

“Whenever he feels like it,” she chuckled. He eased his hand to pull on the tiny strip of hairs over her vagina. “Maverick,” she groaned. “I can’t. We did it three times last night. My cha-cha hurts.”

Maverick chuckled.

“Can I have a kiss? Before our son is awake, and he takes you from me?”

“A kiss? Morning breath kiss?” she cringed. “Let’s wait until after we brush our teeth. That’s more appropriate.”

“Not that kind of kiss. Come here,” Maverick wrestled with her.

He pulled her over to his chest. She sat up, barely awake, as he gripped the cheeks of her ass and squeezed each in the palm of his hands.

“What are you doing—Maverick!”

Maverick was strong. Like a carnival strong man, he lifted and shifted her position, and before she knew it, her hands were up high on the headboard as he scooted beneath and between her parted thighs before he brought her down on his face. Delilah's giggles were like soda pop fizz bubbling up in her throat. She was genuinely tickled by her position and tried her best to get off her lover. What the hell did he think he was doing, she thought? That was until his tongue swept up between the lips of her labia, and her body nearly convulsed with pleasure. Startled sank down on his face. Her thighs locked to his head. She was unable to escape as his oral kicked into high gear. The swirling licks and sucks stretched the ache in her pussy until it burned so yummy it was a wicked delight.

“Good, yes, please,” she begged.

She shuddered as waves of the climax broke over her, and she clawed at the headboard. She cried out in a strangled release as the full force of her orgasm hit her in a burst of feeling she’d never had unchained in her before. Her eyes stretched to the point of bulging. Her quivering thighs locked on his face, and she nearly lost her mind.

Noah’s cries from the other room rang out above her own.

They both froze at first. Delilah lifted off of Maverick’s face, and he sprung to action before she could. He grabbed his boxers. She was too breathless and dazed to tell him what to do. He left her on the bed with her thighs shaking uncontrollably. She managed to crawl to the edge of the bed and reach the blankets to pull them up and over her nudity before Maverick carried her crying son back into the room. Noah looked confused and startled by a man greeting him in the morning, and there was no calming him.

“Noah?” Delilah said. He reached for her. Maverick handed him over and then left the room. “What is it, baby? Mommy’s so sorry. You woke up, and I wasn’t there?”
