Ronny throws off his helmet. His arms raised, he skates around the ring for the world to see.

I grin, staring at the screen, taking in every single moment of this.

I walk down to the rink and step out. Ronny sees me and skates over, slamming into me, practically lifting me off the ground with his hug. “We did it, Dad,” he tells me.
I hug him a little tighter. My boy’s grown before my eyes. I don’t see the eight-year-old anymore. I see a man. “You did it, son, you did it.”
