Author’s Afterword: Berwick Castle
I hope you enjoyed Cole and Corisande’s story. Boy, I love a story with a lot of battles and fights in it, and this one had several. Always so much fun to write.
So let’s talk a little about Berwick Castle.
Berwick plays a big role in the de Wolfe Pack series, as William de Wolfe’s son, Patrick, is the garrison commander. That’s well established. Now, about fifty years prior to Patrick taking it over, it belongs to Cole. That means that somewhere during that fifty years, custody of the castle switched from de Velt to de Wolfe, which is fine because they’re allies. We’ll just assumed Jax, or Cole, passed the torch.
Berwick Castle was really a prize to both the Scots and the English in real life. The reality was that Richard the Lionheart actually did sell it to the Scots to raise funds for his crusade to The Levant, and it was in Scots hands for the entire 13th century when I have it belonging to both de Velt and de Wolfe. The truth of that “possession” is that the castle really did go back and forth between the Scots and the English during that time but, technically, it always belonged to the Scots. Berwick did indeed guard the mouth to the River Tweed, coveted by both countries. There were some even bigger battles there in the 14th century, one of which is depicted in my novel, The Savage Curtain. In that book, the hero – Stephen of Pembury – becomes the garrison commander of it when the English take it. Yet another hero who is a commander of Berwick Castle (about 1333), which means the House of de Wolfe had to lose it in the early part of that century. Since I’m not prepared to address how they lost it, we’ll just say that they did – for now – and leave it at that. I don’t want to think about Patrick losing anything, to be honest. Love my Patrick de Wolfe!
So – just some fun tidbits about Berwick, but it makes for really interesting reading if you have the time. Simply Google Berwick Castle and see what pops up.
Hugs,

Note: All Kathryn’s novels are designed to be read as stand-alones, although many have cross-over characters or cross-over family groups. Novels that are grouped together have related characters or family groups. You will notice that some series have the same books; that is because they are cross-overs. A hero in one book may be the secondary character in another.
There is NO reading order except by chronology, but even in that case, you can still read the books as stand-alones. No novel is connected to another by a cliff hanger, and every book has an HEA.
