There are so many things I can’t wait for—to take her home, to change her diapers regularly (weird, I know), and to give her as much love as I can.
I think back to how this day might have been if it had been Gavin with me here and shudder. I’d have kicked him out of the room. The next thought that swims through my brain is having to do it alone without Finn. The thought nearly pulls tears from my eyes. Millie deserves the perfect family, and that’s what we’ll give her.
Not a half-assed dad.
A family to love her, to want her, to put her first.
I’ll never worry about the issues Vivica has to worry about. Finn would never cheat, never turn his back on us, and never put himself before his family. I have a good man.
By the time everyone leaves, I’m exhausted. That doesn’t stop me from cradling my daughter to my chest as I doze off to sleep. This is my new life, and I can’t wait for the journey it takes me on.

“That’s the hottest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on.”
My gaze sweeps over to Grace sitting on the bed. “Huh?”
She gestures to Millie in my arms. “You, shirtless, sexy, wearing gray sweats while holding our baby.” She licks her lips. “I always thought you were hot, but this is like an orgasm.” She pouts. “The only orgasm I’ll have for a minute.”
I chuckle. “Now, do you understand all those times I told you that motherhood looks sexy as fuck on you?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” she mutters. “You told me how sexy I was when I was like a stuffed turkey.”
Tonight is Millie’s first day home. Our friends wanted to throw a welcome-home party, of course, but we told them to wait until the weekend. Not only do Grace and I need time to adjust, but so does Millie. Even after such a short time, I love this little girl. Grace allowing me into their lives is a fucking blessing I’ll never take for granted.
I inspect her in my arms. She’s so tiny but already weighs down my heart. She yawns, her tongue sticking out, before shutting her eyes again. I tiptoe to her bassinet, kiss her forehead, and carefully lay her down, making sure she’s lying exactly how we were instructed she needed to be. As I climb back into bed with Grace, I think about having more babies with her.
No matter what, Millie will always be my daughter. When I confided in Cohen about taking on the rights as her father, he asked if I’d ever tell Millie the truth about her biological father. I gulp, thinking about when that day would possibly come. It’s hard to know the future, but I hope I never have to disclose that information to her. Grace and I made a pact; albeit some might think it’s selfish of us, as far as Millie will ever know, I’m her dad.
I pull Grace into my arms. “How are you feeling, baby?”
“Exhausted but happy …” She sighs. “Content. You?”
“The happiest I’ve ever been.”
Grace and I took the long route in our relationship, but the greatest things often take time, right? Like fine wine, it only gets better. For years, we chased the dream of a relationship but never fully jumped in. It’s been a marathon, but I’m glad I never stopped chasing her, happy I never gave up.
We’re done chasing each other.
Chasing our feelings.
We’ve caught the love of our lives.
And now, we’re a family.
