Heavy Petting (Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild #2)(8)
Author: Erin Nicholas

“Yeah?”

“You need to put some clothes on.”

She looked down at herself. Her shirt was a pale peach color and hit about three inches below the lower curve of her ass.

“But I shaved.”

Fletcher tucked his hands into the front pockets of his jeans and braced his feet apart. He nodded. “Yep. And I’m wondering just how much shaving you do.”

Her eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. She stared at him. There was very little off limits between her and Fletcher, but there were just some things they naturally steered away from. How much shaving she did was one of those things.

“I can’t believe you just said that to me.”

He shrugged. “It’s the truth. Also that shirt is a little see-through when you’re standing in front of the window.”

She glanced behind her. The sun was coming in through the huge window. She looked back at him. “I—”

“And I can see your nipples.”

Again she felt her mouth drop open. She was very rarely speechless around Fletcher. Then again, Fletcher very rarely talked about her nipples. In fact he had never talked about her nipples.

She crossed her arms over her chest instinctively. It seemed that her nipples liked being talked about because they were a little perkier than they had been a moment ago. “Wow,” was her only response. Very eloquent.

Again, he just shrugged. “Thought we could always say anything to one another.”

“We…can…I just never…had you comment…my nipples before.” She couldn’t believe she was stumbling over her words with Fletcher.

“You sure?”

“Very.”

“Huh.” Fletcher seemed to be thinking about that. “Well, I’m sure I’ve noticed them before, so I must’ve been trying to be a gentleman by not commenting.”

“And you’re not feeling gentlemanly today?”

“Not especially.”

“And why is that?”

“It just you and me, Jordan. And you’re now single. Do I need to be a gentleman?”

She took a deep breath, studying him. Fletcher seemed a little wound up. Not his usual laid-back, easy-going self. She realized he was worried about her. And upset about what happened to her. And honestly, that was really nice. So no, he did not need to be a gentleman.

“Nope,” she said.

“Good. Now go get dressed.”

Or else what? She thought. But she didn’t say it out loud. She wasn’t going to taunt Fletcher about her near naked state and her nipples. That was ridiculous. And inappropriate. Probably. For some reason.

Why didn’t that feel inappropriate and ridiculous?

That was probably something she should think about later. But she was acutely aware now of her near-naked state and her nipples and getting that all covered up seemed like a good idea.

“Be back in a bit,” she said, pivoting on her heel and heading for the bedroom. She closed the door behind her and took a deep breath.

Wow, what was going on? For some reason, she felt even more discombobulated right now than she had when she’d been recognized in the hotel lobby by Jason’s fans.

Jordan pressed a hand to her chest.

Okay, Charlie had said she needed to face all of this with confidence. Naomi said she needed to lay low and let it blow over. Fletcher was now saying she needed to go with him, get on an airplane, and head back to Autre.

Oh crap.

All of a sudden she remembered Naomi and Charlie and her computer. They were still out in the living room. Unless they’d hung up. Surely they’d hung up.

She pulled the door open and peeked out. She didn’t see Fletcher right away so she stepped into the living room.

He was across the room by the phone. He had the room service menu in hand. He glanced over with a questioning look.

She pointed at the computer as she crossed to it.

Fletcher glanced over. “Oh, hey, ladies.”

“Hi, Fletcher,” Charlie greeted cheerily.

Clearly, neither of her friends had thought to disconnect once Fletcher showed up. Which meant they’d witnessed all of the weirdness.

Jordan picked up the computer, lifting it right in front of her face. “You guys knew he was coming?” She started for the bedroom again.

Naomi nodded. “But we didn’t want to say anything because we didn’t know when he’d get there, for sure. And we thought we should focus on the hair emergency.”

“And you might’ve gotten dressed if you’d known he was coming and that would’ve been a whole lot less entertaining.” Charlie gave her a smirk.

Jordan shut the bedroom door behind her. “Stop.”

“No, seriously, I didn’t know you and Fletcher talk like that to each other,” Naomi said.

“Yeah, I didn’t realize you and Fletcher had so much chemistry. I clearly haven’t been around you guys together in a while,” Charlie said.

Jordan set the computer on the bed. “Fletcher and I talk about almost everything.”

“Nipples and erections?” Charlie asked.

Jordan’s cheeks flushed. “Well, no.” She went to the closet and started sliding hangers from one side to the other, rifling through her outfits.

“Well, you’ve talked about nipples and erections now,” Charlie pointed out.

Jordan really wanted to stop talking about nipples and erections. At least, her nipples and Fletcher’s erections.

She sighed, turning back to her friends. “I don’t know what’s going on. I feel like I’m going to wake up and all of this was a weird dream.”

“It’s definitely not a dream,” Naomi told her.

“Dammit.”

“But Fletcher is there now. It’s all going to be okay,” Charlie said.

Naomi nodded. “Right. No worries now.”

“So I need to get on the plane and come home,” Jordan said. “I guess that makes sense.”

“Well, there’s no way he’s leaving you there,” Naomi said. “And he can’t stay. He’s got work tomorrow. And I can’t imagine him thinking you should go back to Nashville.”

“So I should just do whatever Fletcher tells me to do?” Jordan asked dryly.

There was a two-second pause and then both of her friends said, “Yes,” simultaneously.

Jordan laughed.

“I’m serious,” Charlie said. “You’re having a hell of a morning. I think, in light of everything, you should just let Fletcher take over the decision making for the next…twenty-four hours. At least.”

Jordan frowned. “That seems extreme.”

It also sounded amazing. The only decision she’d been sure of so far today was that she wanted caffeinated coffee. She was even second-guessing the king-size peanut butter cup purchase. She probably should have just gotten a regular.

“Nah. Let’s say…until your hair is back to its normal color,” Naomi said with a grin. “Let the sweet guy who knows you best and adores you and would protect you no matter what take care of you for a bit.”

Jordan felt a long breath leave her lungs. It felt like…relief. “That’s okay then?” she asked, finally giving in. “I mean, I really want to do that. I want to just say I’m done for the day. But it’s not even noon and I’m a grown woman.”
