No Escape From War (Trouble for Hire #1)(49)
Author: Cynthia Eden

She went over. Pleasure poured through her, and she shoved down against him, taking him in as deeply as she could. War was climaxing with her. She could feel it—feel him. He poured into her even as his hips jerked and heaved against her.

Her hands flew back to push against his thighs so she could hold her balance. War had strong thighs. Strong everything. She let the orgasm consume them both.

She enjoyed the hell out of that ride.

When her heart slowed, when her breathing evened, she opened her eyes to find him staring at her.

And smiling.

His expression—there was just so much love on his face. She’d never quite had anyone look at her the way War did.

“You’re wearing the ring.” His voice was husky, thick, and satisfied.

Her left hand lifted. She didn’t get off him. She enjoyed her seat far too much. “This ring?” She wiggled her fingers. Maybe tightened her inner muscles around him.

“Rose. God. Yes. That ring.”

“I am wearing it.” Another slow clench.

“When are you…that feels so good…”

He was already getting hard inside of her again. He must definitely be feeling better.

“When are you…gonna marry me?” His head had tilted to the left against the pillow as he stared up at her.

She tapped her chin. “Well, that depends…”

“On?”

“On how fast you can get me a church reserved.”

His head shifted to the right. He flashed her his killer grin. “Consider it done.”

She leaned over him. Pressed a kiss to his lips. “I thought you might say something like that.”

“What else do you need? Tell me. I can make it happen. I want a life with you. I want—”

“You,” she told him before pressing another kiss to his lips. “You’re the only thing I need.” She wouldn’t think of her fears any longer. Wouldn’t think of terrible what-if scenarios for things that might have been. She was safe. War was safe. They had a future waiting—their future together. “You’re what I need. You and me. Saying our vows and starting our life.” That was everything for her.

“You’ve got me,” he told her. “You’ll always have me.”

She liked the sound of his promise.

“I will love you, I will protect you, I will stand with you against anyone and everyone.” He stared into her eyes. “You’re it for me, baby. My end game. My once-in-a-lifetime.”

That was sweet. Very un-War-like. “Maybe those should be your vows.” He was still in her. Talking was getting hard. She wanted to do more moving. But—

“If they were,” War rumbled, “what would yours be?”

She didn’t look away from him. “I will love you, I will protect you, and I will stand with you against anyone and everyone.”

He smiled.

“You’re it for me, baby,” she told him and shared a smile of her own. But her smile slowly faded. This mattered. He mattered. “You are my happily-ever-after. You are my safe place when the world is crazy. You are the one I turn to when I think I’m lost.”

“I was lost without you.” Gruff.

They weren’t lost anymore. They’d found their way back to each other. They were stronger now. Better.

And they’d never get lost again.

The End

In the mood for more trouble? The “Trouble For Hire” series continues with DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN.

Don’t Play With Odin

Big, bad, and currently out of his element…

Odin Shaw thought he’d spend his life on a battlefield. But fate had other plans, and now the ex-Special Forces operative has just landed a new job at his best friend’s PI office. It’s one hell of a life change, and the giant “Viking” is trying to adjust, fast, but then she walks into his life.

Delicate, beautiful, and hunting a killer…

Maisey Bright has been following the news. She knows that the small PI firm just helped track a killer and get the perp locked away—so Maisey figures that the towering man sitting behind the massive desk will be perfect solution for her current predicament. The cops don’t believe her story, so Maisey has no choice. She wants to hire Odin. The job in question? Well, she needs him to help her find proof—irrefutable evidence—that her next-door neighbor is a serial killer.

The gorgeous ones are always a little bit crazy…

Odin figures the case will be a snap. He’ll prove that Maisey’s neighbor is most definitely not a serial killer. He’ll do it in record time, and he’ll score some extra cash for the PI firm. Maybe he’ll even score some points with the lovely—but obviously way too crime-enthusiast-obsessed—Maisey. Piece of cake.

It’s not a piece of cake. It’s a freaking nightmare.

When Odin steps into Maisey’s world, things seem off from the very beginning. Her neighbor is suspicious as hell, and when Maisey is nearly kidnapped after leaving her job, Odin realizes there is much more to the case than meets the eye. A whole lot more. He moves into Maisey’s place to protect her—and to keep an eye on her neighbor. But the close proximity to the maddening Maisey stirs a fierce desire inside of Odin. Maisey is smart, off-beat, sexy…and when he kisses her, Odin is a goner.

But first, the killer…

Odin and Maisey set off to uncover the truth about her neighbor, and as they dig deeper into the disappearances that have plagued the town for the last year, Odin begins to suspect that Maisey may be dead right. He also realizes that he is falling for a woman who now seems be the target of a killer. Looks like it might be time for Odin to go to battle once more. Because there is no way—no way—that anyone will hurt Maisey.

Author’s Note: Calling all true-crime enthusiasts! Maisey is your girl. She spends her nights listening to podcasts and sleuthing, but when she suspects that a killer is living next door, Maisey knows that she needs a professional partner…so Odin Shaw enters the picture. Odin has muscles for days, and he doesn’t even blink when he faces danger. He’s just the PI that she wants. Danger, romance, twists—time for their story to begin.

A Note From the Author

Thank you for reading NO ESCAPE FROM WAR! I hope you enjoyed the story. I wanted to write a book that would be a fun mix of romance, humor, and suspense, and War’s story just emerged! And there are more “Trouble for Hire” stories planned…War’s friend Odin will have a book, too (DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN).

It was such fun to set NO ESCAPE FROM WAR in an area of the country that is near and dear to me. If you have never visited the beautiful Pensacola and Pensacola Beach area, you should add it to your list!

If you have time, please consider leaving a review. Reviews help readers to discover new books—and authors certainly appreciate them!
