The man kicked and made gurgling noises as his fingers tore into Cole's hand. Cole gripped the man's shoulder and tore the man's head off. Retracting his claws, he palmed the head and threw it at the next fae coming at him.
It bounced off the man's forehead and sent him tumbling out of the saddle. His horse continued toward them but veered away before running into them. When Cole aimed his horse at the fallen rider, the animal didn't hesitate before trampling the man.
Fire from the torches burst high as the enemy lost them, and it caught on the grass and homes. Controlled by another dark fae, those flames raced across the ground and encircled him and a dozen other riders.
Cole almost laughed out loud. He was sure that whomever was controlling the fire probably believed they would frighten or intimidate him, but these flames were pathetic after what he endured during the trials.
Kicking his feet free of the stirrups, Cole jumped from his horse's back and raced toward the flames.
On the other side of the fire, he spotted Durin with Nissa and Fiadh. Durin was a member of the council who Cole would gladly kill. Nissa and Fiadh were Aelfdane's brother and sister. Cole hadn't had any problem with killing Aelfdane, and he'd have less of one killing his siblings.
But now, he knew who was leading this rebellion against him, and he would make them pay for it.
As he stalked toward them, the three of them lifted their arms, and the flames surged higher. The fae who'd risen against him swarmed closer to the fire as the flames leapt higher.
Cole bellowed as he ran toward them.
