I’d heard Chelsea was some sort of rodeo princess. She’d hooked up with Addy when she needed physical therapy after an injury but I didn’t know anything beyond that.
“I’ll sponsor you.”
“No.”
“Let me rephrase—the bar will sponsor you.”
“Let me repeat, no. Pony up, Matt; I told you now you tell me.”
I’d rather play ‘you show me and I’ll show you.’ But that offer wasn’t on the table. Nor would it be.
“I avoid you because I think you’re a beautiful woman.”
Those insanely pretty eyes narrowed again and she shook her head. “I didn’t take you for the type.”
“What type?”
“The lying kind.”
Was she crazy?
“Woman, have you looked in a mirror? You’re gorgeous.”
“So, what, you have a phobia of pretty women?”
“Gorgeous,” I corrected. “And no, not all of them. Just the ones I have filthy thoughts about. Correction—the ones I have filthy thoughts about when I can’t act on ‘em.”
Chelsea’s mouth fell open, then she clamped it closed and stared at me like I’d lost my mind.
“Don’t look at me like that. You asked.”
“Why can’t you act on them?”
Yup, Chelsea Sullens was crazy.
“Because you’re close to my friends’ women.”
“And that matters because?”
Maybe it was the attitude she was throwing my way. Maybe it was the months of lusting after a woman I’d deemed untouchable, yet I couldn’t turn off my attraction even though I had done what she accused me of and avoided being alone with her. But there was something in the way she was staring at me that made me step closer.
“Because if something goes bad it might be uncomfortable.”
“So you don’t think I’m mature enough to act like a woman and not a hissy-fit-throwing girl?”
“That’s the problem, Chelsea. I know you’re a woman.”
“Why’s that a problem?”
I was close enough she had no other option but to lean against the wall or stand nose to nose with me.
She didn’t lean back. Instead, she held her ground. Not only that, she smiled.
“Dare you?” she whispered.
Accepted.
My mouth slammed over hers and she tasted like a dream. The kind you wake up from and immediately wanted to roll over and go back to sleep to find it again.
Unfortunately, the next morning when I woke up my life turned into a nightmare.
Up next Matthew and Chelsea in Tainted.
