He found the tears welling up inside him, missing the years they had lost, the pain and horror she’d seen while he was feeling sorry for himself, arming himself for Armageddon. He marveled how strong she had been to keep little Emma safe.
She kissed first his right eyelid and then his left.
“Stay with me, Brady. Let me take care of you. I’m never ever going to leave again. Let me prove my love for you. I need your strength too. We need you in our lives, forever.”
It did little to stop the crying, but he let them flow anyway. She laid him back on the bed, whispering things he’d heard before but loving them even more now. Her body carefully, delicately, and with all the passion in her soul wrapped around him and drew him back to life.
In her arms, he remembered what he wanted to do.
He wanted to live forever, be a family, and love like no one was watching.
Now he realized that to truly have her and appreciate the gift of her love, he had to lose her first.

Lionel is a dark vampire who are servants of the Goldens. Phoebe is a Golden who has not decided if she will remain human or accept the turning to become a vampire. Either way she and Lionel can never be together since it is forbidden.
