Beckett is controlled. Focused. Disciplined.

He’s discreet in all things.

Cold and calculated in the way he executes his moves.

Beckett is too buttoned up for me.

I like my men to be looser, more openly passionate, more of a free spirit.

The kind of men who are tattooed.

I never imagined Beckett as that kind of man.

He doesn’t say anything while I gawk; he simply continues changing. And continues watching me. And that right there has me in a fluster. Because he’s not just looking at me, he’s trying to unmask me. He’s trying to get a feel for me. For my thoughts. I don’t know how I know this, but I do. It’s right there in his eyes. And holy hell, it’s making me all kinds of confused and on edge and perplexed. And damn him, it’s kinda turning me on—in a completely not turned on kind of way, of course. I mean, Beckett Pearce irritates me. He doesn’t freaking get me hot and bothered.

Right, time to take charge of this situation.

I turn and search the room for Tilly. When I spot her, I glance back at Beckett and say, “I’ll leave you to finish changing. You don’t need me for this.” Then, without waiting for his response, I turn away again and stalk in the direction of my friend.

She looks up as I approach, a frown crossing her face. “Whoa, babe, what’s this all about?” she asks, her hands motioning in circles at my face. “You look like you’re about to make a declaration or something.”

“He’s dressed. Sorted. My job here is done.” I’m aware my words leave my mouth a little breathlessly, but I ignore that and charge on. “I’m going to leave now. Feel free never to hire me again. Especially if the job involves a rich asshole.”

She stares at me silently for a beat, her face expressionless, before her mouth tilts into a smirk. “Oh, my darling, I think you like yourself a rich asshole but don’t want to admit it.”

My eyes widen. “I do not. He might be hot, but a girl needs a lot more than hot to go on. Like, maybe some personality and a lot less arrogance.”

“Beckett has loads of personality. I’m not sure how you can be so blind to it.”

“He might have something you like, but he has nothing I like. It’s called taste, Till, and we all have different tastes.”

The photographer cuts in on our conversation, saying to Tilly, “How did we go with finding a model? I’m about to start and would very much like to try the shot I mentioned to you.”

Tilly pulls a face. “I’m working on it, Jacques. Just waiting to hear back from the girls I’ve reached out to.”

Jacques frowns. A deep frown that borders on pissed off. “My dear Tilly, that is not the answer I was looking for.” He throws a glance around the room, settling his gaze on me. He runs his eyes over my body before nodding and jerking his chin at me. “You.” He looks at Tilly. “She’s perfect for this. Get her dressed.”

He strides away from us, leaving me with a bad feeling about what just transpired.

“Uh, what just happened?” I say to Tilly.

She takes hold of my bicep and leads me toward the change cubicle where I left Beckett. “You just scored a new job.”

ADD TO GOODREADS

Dear Reader

Thank you so much for reading Jack & Jessica’s book.

Their book is so special to me. I first started work on Jack’s book in 2018 just after I finished writing Ashton’s book. I had a lot going on back then, and didn’t realise I was suffering depression. I was also quite burnt out after years of not taking care of myself properly. I was also dealing with grief after my mother passed away in 2017. I ended up putting Jack’s book on hold and then took three years to come back to it.

In those three years, I did a lot of therapy, both by myself and with psychologists. Also in that time, my daughter was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

You know those moments in life where it feels like the universe is in charge? And that decisions you made a long time ago that didn’t feel good or that were hard finally start to make sense or click into place? That was how I felt while writing Jack’s story.

I was meant to take three years to get to it. I could not have written a character like Jack and done him justice three years ago. Also, working through his story with him was another form of therapy for me. In a way, I wrote myself in Jack. So many parts of him and his struggles are me and my struggles.

I’m having trouble letting Jack & Jessica go. I loved being with them so much I wrote a bonus epilogue. This won’t be the last time we see them either! I can’t wait for you to see where I’m taking all these characters in the future!!

I hope you loved their story as much as I do.

And thank you for your patience if you’ve been waiting for this book.
