Beyond the Game (Out of Reach #2)(38)
Author: Kaylee Ryan

“Love you too, Mom. Talk soon,” I assure her, before ending the call. I turn off the truck and grab my bag. I left Paisley sleeping peacefully in my bed when I went to the stadium, but I’m sure she’s up by now. I rush to my place and unlock the door. I find my girl standing in the kitchen in nothing but one of my Blaze T-shirts.

“Hey, babe.” She smiles as she brings the cup of coffee to her lips.

I drop my bag by the door, and my feet carry me to her. I lift her onto the counter and take the coffee cup from her hands, setting it to the side. Then I slide my hand behind her neck and kiss the fuck out of her. The kiss is bruising, but my girl doesn’t seem to mind. She wraps her legs around my waist, and her hands grip my shirt. Needing air, I pull back, resting my forehead against hers.

“What’s gotten into you?” she murmurs.

“I got called into the GM’s office today.”

She pushes back at my chest so she can look me in the eyes. “Cameron?” There’s hope in her voice, so much like my mom’s. I’m surrounded by strong, beautiful women.

“Hastings is retiring. They offered me a three-year contract.”

“Oh my God!” She does a little shimmy on the counter and wraps her arms around my neck, pulling me into a hug. “I’m so damn proud of you.” She gives me a loud lip-smacking kiss as she giggles. “We have to celebrate.”

“I was thinking I could take you to breakfast.”

She grins at me. “Yeah. We could do breakfast,” she says, not really committing to the idea. “Or—” She tugs me close and whispers in my ear, “You could take me to your room, and I could show you how proud of you I am.”

My hands slide under her thighs, and I lift her into my arms, carrying her to our room. She doesn’t live here officially, but she’s been here pretty much since I moved in. This feels like our place, not mine. Stepping into the bedroom, I see the sheets are still rumpled from where we slept last night, which is fine by me. We’re just going to mess them up again. I press my lips to hers, kissing her with all the love I have in my heart for this amazing woman. I don’t break the kiss as I set her on the bed.

“We’re celebrating you,” she reminds me, breaking the kiss.

“Trust me, beautiful. This is a celebration for me,” I assure her.

She nods. “I can make it better.” She pushes on my chest, and when I step back, she stands. When she turns to face me, she places her hands on my hips and turns me so my back is facing the bed.

All I can do is stare as she drops to her knees and works my athletic shorts and boxer briefs down my legs. She peers up at me under her lashes. “Step out,” she instructs.

I do so awkwardly, my shoes in the way. She giggles as she lifts one foot, then the other, removing my shoes so I can step out of my clothes. “You can go ahead and lose the shirt too,” she demands.

“Yes, ma’am,” I say with a smile. My girl wants me naked? Who am I to tell her no? Reaching behind my neck, I pull off the T-shirt and toss it at her. Her laughter fills the room.

“Funny man.” She smiles. “Sit.” I do as she asks, and she moves in close. “Now, just feel,” she instructs, before taking my cock in her mouth.

I hiss out a breath at the feel of her mouth sliding over me. Hot, wet, and so fucking sexy. I fight the need to close my eyes and just get lost in the pleasure of her mouth on me, but the need to watch her wins out. I can’t take my eyes off her as her head bobs and her hands work me in tandem. She slows and peers up at me.

I move to place my hand against her cheek, my cock still deep in her mouth. “I love you.”

Her eyes shimmer from my confession, and she takes me deep. “Fuck.” That must be the response she was looking for as she works me harder, faster. All too soon, I’m tapping her on the shoulder. “Close,” I manage to say through the pleasure building inside me. She doesn’t pull away. Not that I expected her to. Instead, she takes everything I have to give as I spill down the back of her throat.

She stands and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. She then climbs into the bed behind me. “Cam.” My name is a whisper on her lips. I’m spent, but I turn to face her. “Cuddle with me?”

Is there anything better in life than being offered a multimillion-dollar deal with a professional baseball team and cuddling with your girl? I think not.

Chapter 21

Paisley

Today is a day off before a three-day home game stretch. Mom called last night and insisted Cameron and I go to dinner at their place tonight. Cameron readily agreed, like the amazing guy he is. The last time we had dinner with my family, it was a disaster—until we got home, and my dad called to apologize. I don’t know how tonight will be, but I hope it’s the complete opposite of our last dinner. The day at the fun center turned out great, so I hope tonight will too.

“Why don’t you call your mom and see what she’s doing for lunch? We can drive up and see her,” I suggest to Cameron.

His eyes light up as he reaches over to the nightstand to call his mom. It’s a little after nine in the morning, and we’re still in bed. We take full advantage of these days off.

The phone rings through the speaker twice before Grace picks up. “Hello.”

“Hey, Mom. What are you doing for lunch today?” he asks her.

“I’m not sure yet. I’m off today. Why, what’s up?”

“Well, today is an off day, and Paisley and I thought we would drive up and have lunch with you.”

“Really?” she asks, pleasantly surprised if her tone is any indication.

Cameron’s eyes find mine, and he winks. “How’s noon?”

“It’s perfect. Just come here. I’ll make us lunch.”

“You don’t have to do that—” Cameron starts, but she cuts him off.

“I want to,” she insists.

“All right, well, I guess we will see you in a few hours.”

“Love you, Cam,” she says, ending the call before he can even reply.

“I think she’s excited.” I chuckle.

“Yeah, I think so too. Great idea, baby.” He leans over and kisses me.

“Both of our families in one day.”

“We’ll have more time in the off-season,” he assures me.

“And more us time.” I move closer to lay my head on his chest.

We’re both quiet as he runs his fingers through my hair. We still have plenty of time before we have to start getting ready to go have lunch with Grace, and right now, we’re both just content to lie here in each other’s arms. “I’ve been thinking,” he says, his voice soft.

“Yeah? About what?” I ask, not moving from my spot against his chest. The way his fingers are running through my hair is relaxing. He could probably put me back to sleep from his touch.

“What if you moved in here? With me? Or we could buy a place together.”

I lift my head to look at him and find his eyes already on me. “You want to move in together?”

“We practically live together anyway.”

“What about Willow?”

“When is your lease up?” he asks.
