The baby cried again.
“I’m coming, Ava,” Vera called to the infant in the next room.
She even slept beside their bed.
In a tiny bassinet.
His wife tossed him a wink before she exited the en suite bathroom. She didn’t ask for his help, but the longer he listened to her soothe and chat with the baby girl—who probably wanted a diaper change and feeding as it was nearing in on her typical two-hour mark—the less he wanted to stay in the bath.
So, he didn’t.
Vaslav let the tub drain while he dried off. Keeping the towel snug around his waist, he leaned in the doorway to watch Vera as she sat in the rocking chair he’d put in the corner for her. Complete with a rocking stool, it made feeding the baby easier and more comfortable at night.
Mira made bottles ahead.
Vera kept them cold in their mini fridge.
Vaslav had been the one to figure out the trick of letting hot water from the sink tap run over the bottle to warm the milk to lukewarm in mere minutes. It saved them more time than running downstairs to heat water for the same purpose.
He’d warm this bottle, too.
Like all the last.
First, he just enjoyed the sight of her like she was—whispering sweet nothings to a baby that had practically no one except the woman holding her in her arms. They were worthy arms, though, and capable of the most amazing things. Vaslav was the proof.
Ava would be in good hands.
Well, until her mother could finally hold her.
