Second Chance Vow(46)
Author: M. Robinson

“But you know what, sweetness?”

“What?”

He gazed deep into my eyes and spoke with conviction, “You wouldn’t have gone through with our divorce either.”

“How do you know?”

“Because, baby, you’ve always been mine, and there was no way you were going to forget how deep our love goes.”

“I think you’re right.”

“I know I am.”

I took a deep breath, peering at the two loves of my life. My husband and our son.

Who we made out of pure desperation when we were saying goodbye to each other.

Only to wind up pregnant…

With our new beginning.

Christian

“You look good holding that baby,” Kinley’s mom stated, suddenly standing beside me.

It had been a month since Asher was born, and we were having our first family barbeque at our house. Everyone who mattered was there.

Including fucking Jax.

I kissed his head, smiling at her.

“Christian, now that we’re alone for a minute, I just want to thank you again for what you did for me back then.”

“My pleasure.”

“I know I have said this to you so many times already, but you truly saved my life. I know without a shadow of a doubt I wouldn’t be standing here if you didn’t help me get into that facility.”

“I love your daughter. I’d do anything for her.”

“I hope one day, you can learn to love me too.”

“Wah!” Asher cried out, squirming in my arms.

“I think your grandson needs a diaper change. Want to do the honors?”

“Of course.” She grabbed him out of my arms. “Come here, my angel baby. Look how handsome you are.”

He cooed. Our son loved her.

“You know, one day, not tomorrow or the next or even next year, but I’d love for you to eventually call me mom.”

“I’d like that.”

She smiled, turning around to go back inside.

Unable to hold back, I said, “Everyone makes mistakes, and I’m happy that Kinley has you back in her life. I know how much she missed you. How much she loves you.”

She met my eyes. “She’s the best thing I ever did.”

“I have to agree.”

“Thank you for loving her the way you do.”

“She makes it easy.”

She spun again to take a step.

“And, Miss McKenzie.” I smiled at her. “I do love you. And I’m damn proud of how far you’ve come.”

The expression on her face was enough to make a grown man cry. She didn’t just light up, she fucking glowed. Almost blinding.

“I love you too.” She kissed Asher’s head and then made her way back inside at the same time that Kinley was walking out to me.

“What was that about?”

“Don’t worry about it.”

“Fine. I’ll just ask my mom.” She wrapped her arms around my neck. “Have I told you how much I love you today?”

“Yes, but you know how much I love to hear it.”

“I love you, Christian.”

“I love you more, sweetness.”

“Not possible.”

I gripped onto her ass, sitting her up on the outside kitchen counter to stand in between her legs.

“I can’t wait to get you pregnant again.”

“Oh my God! We just had a baby a month ago.”

“I know, and I’m ready for the next.”

“I’m not if you won’t put out for nine months.”

“Well, you also know how much I love you begging for my cock.”

She giggled, and it was still the sweetest sound I’d ever heard. This was all I’d ever wanted.

A life with her.

—Kinley—

“Maybe next time we can have a little girl.”

“A little girl, huh?”

“Yes.” I grinned against her mouth. “One who looks exactly like you.”

“But what about when she gets older and boys start calling the house?”

“Over my dead body.”

I opened my mouth to reply, but Jax intervened. “You know how much I hate agreeing with Christian, but they’re going to have to face Uncle Jax to get through to her.”

Christian groaned into my neck, hearing him call himself Uncle Jax.

“Did you just get here?” I asked.

“Yeah, your mom handed me your son, and he shit and threw up on me.”

My eyes widened, and Christian didn’t miss a beat, locking eyes with him. Simply stating, “That’s my boy.”

I laughed, throwing my head back.

“Kinley, I thought you were on my side? Do you have a shirt I can change into? This one’s covered in God knows what? What the hell are you feeding that kid?” He looked down at the huge puke stain in the front of his shirt. “How does something so big come out of something so small?”

Christian nodded to him. “I’ll go see what I can find.” He kissed me before he left me alone with Jax.

“Your mom looks good, Kinley.”

“I know. Asher is obsessed with her. She’s the only one who can get him to stop crying. She’s like the baby whisperer.”

“Motherhood suits you. You’ve never looked better.”

“I wish I could say the same to you.”

He sighed. “Am I that obvious?”

“I’ve known you since I was twelve. You have that look about you. Is something wrong?”

He leaned against the counter with his hands gripping the edge, and the expression on his face quickly turned into one I hadn’t seen before. It instantly made me worry.

“What, Jax? You’re freaking me out.”

“I know. I don’t know how to say it other than…” He hesitated before confessing…

“I royally fucked up, Kinley. And now I need your help.”
