Enemy Heir (Tattered Royals #2)(40)
Author: Carrie Ann Ryan

“Now, let’s finish our dinner, have dessert, and talk about the next issues that will arise with the council,” Roman muttered.

“Should I be here for this?” Sparrow asked, glancing at me.

“Of course. You’re already sworn in as part of security, and you’re mine. You go where I go.”

She snorted. “I do believe you have that backward.”

I grinned, leaned down, and captured her lips in mine, ignoring the groan from Kannon and the others.

Sparrow was here in Alden and wouldn’t be leaving except for assignments in other parts of Europe. I would have to let her go, and maybe sometimes she would let me go with her. But we would learn how to deal with all that. But first, before any of that, I would enjoy a night with my family, where they knew more about me than I’d ever let them see before. Where I finally felt comfortable, like I wasn’t the screwed-up playboy who only wanted to get in a girl’s skirt, but rather the man who was in love with a woman who was stronger and fiercer than anyone I knew.

And even though the worst had almost happened, it hadn’t.

And I would always remember that, always remember the woman at my side. And one day soon, I would ask her to be my wife, my princess.

I couldn’t help but grin.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked softly as the others spoke.

“Oh, nothing,” I mumbled, kissing her again. She gave me a look that said that I would have to explain later, and I would.

Because I would always tell my princess protector what was on my mind, even if I knew she would growl at me later.

Chapter 22

Sparrow

Happy ever afters can even surprise the prince.

“I cannot believe you got me into a dress,” I said as I scowled. I tugged on the bunch of fabric near my hips and tried to lower it a bit so I wouldn’t show so much leg, but there was no helping it. The red silk fit to my skin perfectly, as if it had been tailor-made for me. Of course, it had, and I knew it cost more than anything else I’d ever purchased in my life. However, it had been a present from Breck, and I was going to have to learn how to deal with it.

Even if I might throw up later just thinking about it.

“Well, I can’t wait to get you out of that dress,” he purred, before he kissed me softly beside my mouth. “I don’t want to mess up your lipstick, so I will save those lips for later. I can’t wait until they’re wrapped around my cock. Just imagine those red lips licking up and down my shaft as I slowly fuck that sweet mouth of yours.”

I pressed my thighs together and glared at him, barely managing not to topple over the wineglass in my hand. “Stop it, Breck Waterford. What the hell are you doing? Somebody could overhear.”

“We are tucked away in the corner while everybody stares at us two lovebirds wondering exactly how you could be so idiotic as to fall for little old me.”

I rolled my eyes and downed half of my drink. “I’m pretty sure they’re not thinking that. More like Wow, he really went for a commoner this time, didn’t he? Just like his little sister,” I muttered, annoyed with myself.

Breck frowned and then rubbed his thumb along my cheekbone. “Hey, enough of that.”

“Sorry, I’m fine. Really. I’m happy. So fricking happy. It’s a little scary how happy I am.”

“That’s what I like to hear.” He rolled his eyes and kissed the other side of my mouth. “Okay, now we’re at a royal event where I am His Royal Highness Prince Breck, and you are my guest.”

“Yes, Price Breck and guest.”

“And my love, my Sparrow, my princess protector.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “You cannot call me that. I’m not a princess.”

I swallowed hard as he gave me a look that told me that wouldn’t be the case for long. He was going to propose one day, get down on one knee and do it just right, exactly how Breck would, because that’s the kind of guy he was. And I was going to say yes. Because I couldn’t resist him. I loved him, and I wanted to be his wife.

His princess? Not so much. I could handle the protector part, but the princess part was going to take getting used to. Including the whole dress thing all the time.

“You look amazing in that dress, and while I am going to fuck you hard in it, first, I want to dance with you in it.”

I shook my head and set my drink on the tray of a passing waiter. Breck did the same with his glass and then took my hand. “Come now, let me show you exactly how I can move.”

I rolled my eyes. “Oh, I know exactly how you move, Prince Breck.”

“I love when you call me that. You get all sarcastic. It makes me hot.”

“I’m pretty sure a stiff wind can make you hot.”

“Well, you got the stiff part right, but only for you” he mumbled as he took me in his arms and twirled me around the dance floor. Others muttered as they looked at us, and I knew they were wondering how this could happen. Had I truly tamed the beast? Not so much. There was nothing tame about my playboy prince. However, I wasn’t very tame, either. I glared at a few women who were ogling my man’s ass, and though I agreed with them that he had a fine ass, it was mine. They weren’t allowed to ogle like they wanted to touch it, and might just do so.

“Hey, stop scaring everybody.”

“They look like they want to see you naked.” I paused. “Possibly again.”

He rolled his eyes and gave a quick glance around the room. “I can positively say I’ve only slept with one person in this room.” He gave the room a second glance. “Yes, only one person. And that would be you, just in case you were having trouble with the math.”

“I would kick you, but then I would trip in these heels. And then I would have to deal with the fact that I’d be on my face on the dance floor, and everybody would laugh at me. And I’m not in the mood to deal with that.”

“I would never let you fall,” he whispered, before he kissed the side of my mouth again.

“You always say the sweetest things. Sometimes the dirtiest things, but I like those too.”

“Good. Now, is that a knife on your thigh, or are you just happy to see me?” he muttered.

I raised a brow as he spun me around. “It’s a knife. I’d have my gun too, but it was too hard to conceal in this dress. So thank you for not allowing me to be fully armed.”

He groaned and spun me again. “Damn, I don’t know why that’s so sexy.”

“Because you have a weird kink I didn’t know about?” I asked, and laughed.

“Possibly. But how weird. I thought I knew all my kinks. I’m so glad that you’re helping me find them.”

“Please, no more.” I shivered, thinking about exactly what we had done the night before. “Let’s wait on more kinks.”

We twirled so that my back was to the wall with no one behind me, and he slowly slid his hand over my backside and gently patted me on the ass. “Sore?”

I groaned. “No. Now please, you’re very lucky I love you, because if I didn’t, I would be very upset thinking people know exactly what we did last night.”
