North of Love (Xtreme Ops #7)(21)
Author: Em Petrova

His hips jerked out of rhythm. She slipped down the wall, and he caught her, locking her in place as he threw back his head on a bellow and let his own release overtake him.

She cradled his jaw and drew him back to her for a kiss. Her lips roamed over his with a new tenderness and a seeking desire for more and more from this man.

His cock pulsed into her one last time and he turned his attention to kissing her long and deep. Wonder spread through her. He hadn’t just pulled out and cast her aside. He continued to kiss her and hold her until the final pulses of their releases faded.

He raised his head, eyes still burning and his breaths coming hard. “I’m far from finished with you, baby. I’m so close to carrying you into that bedroom and doing it right.”

She nuzzled his nose with hers and delivered a soft peck to the corner of his hard lips. “Who says that wasn’t right?”

“I don’t want to let you go. I’m afraid you’ll disappear while I’m gone.”

“I have two days here. If you don’t make it back in time—”

“I will. Well, I’ll try.”

“Take the time you need. This missing person is more important.”

He withdrew from her and let her slide down the wall to her feet, keeping his hands on her middle. He searched her face for a moment and then crushed her against his chest. “I’ll be back.”

“And if you’re not, I’ll leave you a note.”

He kissed her forehead before tipping her face up to his in order to brush a gentle kiss over her mouth. “I can’t live with you just walking out and never seeing you again.”

She smiled. “You find missing people. I’m sure you could find me. You did once already.”

He squeezed her tight. “I have to leave. Cora will be waiting at our rendezvous point before I get there.” He released her reluctantly and began to right his clothes.

When she stepped into her panties, he issued a low groan. Her eyes snapped to his.

“I want to taste you so damn bad. And take you back into town for the festivities. And hold you in my arms all night. Freya, I haven’t had enough time to get to know you.”

“That’s my fault.”

He shook his head. “No. You’ve been recovering. You need rest.” A grin broke over his face. He eased a lock of her hair behind her ear. “And my mouth on your nipples…” He leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Your clit.”

His hot, dirty words had her need spiking all over again. She threw her arms around him. “Then find this person quick and come back to me, Hunt.”

They stood in each other’s arms for long moments. At last, he slipped his ski jacket on, grabbed his backpack and called Aries to his side.

“Keep the door locked, Freya.”

She tried to hide the shiver of worry that coursed through her. “Don’t worry—I will.”

Hunt and Aries turned to the door and were gone in a blink. She listened to his engine and the crunch of tires on snow as he drove away from the cabin.

Leaving her alone with her worries, her fears.

Part of her wished she had Aries here for company.

She also couldn’t stop thinking about the way Hunt’s brows had pinched together when he told her to keep the door locked.

Chapter Ten

The chopper lifted off the ground. In the cockpit next to Cora, Hunt had a good view of the mountain from here. He couldn’t make out the cabin, but he stared at the trees that concealed it.

Cora sliced a grin his way. “That was a short vacation, Cason.”

He threw her a smile too. “That was a short maternity leave, Cora.”

“Well, I’m going back to the baby for another few weeks. Can you start your vacation over?”

His head was full of visions of taking Freya up against the wall. What had come over him? He’d lost his damn mind. He never treated women like that, barely warming them up to the thought of sex before claiming them.

“Okay, who is she?”

Cora’s question jolted him. The white landscape flew by underneath them as they hit altitude and soared into the clouds.

“What?”

“You heard me. Penn told me you called about finding a woman on the mountain.”

“Any word from Penn on that front? Has he found out anything?”

“Besides the fact there are five women named Freya in this county alone?”

He blinked. “How the hell can that be? It’s not a common name.”

“Beats me. Maybe a bunch of Vikings settled here and passed the family name on for generations.”

“She works at a government agency.”

Cora issued a tinkling laugh. “That doesn’t narrow it down much. There are a ton of government offices around these parts of Alaska.”

“At the time I asked Penn to search for her, she couldn’t remember anything. She has a hole in her memory.”

“A head injury?”

“The doctor at the clinic says no.”

“And when did you start wearing berry-scented cologne?”

Again, Cora’s question came out of nowhere. He paused to process the words. The shampoo Freya had been using in the cabin could be the only answer. First apples and then berries. He’d never think of fruit the same way again.

He scrubbed a hand over his face. Which was the worst idea because he not only caught that berry scent that clung to Freya but the scent of her desire.

He’d stroked his fingers over her pussy so briefly. Damn, he wanted to go back and start over, give her the pleasure and foreplay she deserved.

“I…hugged her goodbye,” he said.

“I see.” Her smug tone had him shaking his head but hiding a smile. In the back of the chopper, Aries was panting and smiling with joy at getting out on a search again.

Cora followed his gaze. “He looks happy.”

“He’s been bored.”

“Neither one of you are used to having time off.”

“That’s true.”

“But you’re not bored, are you?” She lifted her brows in expectation.

“No. But I’m not saying more. I’ve only known Freya a few days.”

“You like her. I can tell.”

“I’m helping her.” And giving her more orgasms as soon as I get back.

“Does Aries like her too?”

“Freya is afraid of him.”

Cora laughed. “Of him? He’s a teddy bear.”

“I know, but she has some past trauma from a dog running at her. Besides, Aries hasn’t been acting like himself. A couple times he’s run into the woods on the scent of something.”

“That doesn’t sound like Aries.”

“I know. It will be good for him to have work to do again. Let’s hope it’s a short search, though. Give me the deets on the victim.”

Cora adjusted some controls before filling him in on everything she knew. Four of the five members of the S&R team were already on the mountain, and Roger had hung back waiting for Hunt to arrive as his partner.

After that, Hunt got Cora talking about her newborn son, and the rest of the flight passed quickly.

When they touched down on the ground and Hunt and Aries stood watching Cora take off again for a sweep of the area where the person had gone missing, Hunt immediately shifted into work mode.
