“I agree. Anything more would be speculation from what I’ve witnessed.”
My mind runs wild with all the possibilities as I continue to watch her determination to find a way into the house. “She really wants in.”
“It seems so, sir.”
I begin to pace. My curiosity won’t allow me to let her give up and disappear without first knowing who she is and what she wants. “Who are you… and what are you doing here?” I talk to the screen as if the girl could hear me and would answer if she did. “Is everyone else gone?” I have a staff of six that sometimes stay here, along with Lou and Chip, who live here, and their safety is priority above any intrigue I may feel for a stranger.
“There are two here tonight, Boss.” My eyes are still glued to her every move, now watching the live feed. A quick flip through the saved footage shows me exactly where she walked onto the grounds and which doors she’s already attempted. She has two more before she’s made her way through all of them on the bottom floor.
“Lou, go unlock the door to the foyer and then lock yourself inside the staff’s wing. Stay there to make sure they all stay quiet and locked in.”
“Boss. What if she…” I knew he’d resist my request and I also know I’ll need to be stern for him to follow through with that I’m about to say. His loyalty is to me and to him this is a breach of my safety, but I need him to take care of the staff and make sure no one is blind-sided. I can’t think of the last time we’ve had a visitor, so I can only imagine how they’d react if they bumped into some random chick in a hoodie if they get up to take a piss.
“I can handle her. Do as I say.” I give him his phone back and rush out of the gym on a mission to grab a shirt from my room. Luckily, it’s just down the hall, but still on the second floor, just above where little-miss-mischievous is.
That smile sent me back a few years and even though I know there’s no possible way it’s who I want it to be, I have to know who has the audacity to try to break into my house. She obviously has no idea of the level of security we have here for the club.
The scenario of capturing her runs through my mind and I quickly come up with a plan of how to restrain her and where to put her once I’ve caught her.
Handcuffs and rope are always an easy go-to, but I’m not naïve. I make sure my knife and gun are both strapped in place just in case I need to prove to her just how serious I am.
I’m hoping she’s going to be smart enough not to piss me off even further by fighting me once I capture her, but my guess is she’ll be as rebellious as they come and test my last fucking nerve. I guess I’ll find out when I come face to face with her here in about two minutes.
Even though it seems as if I have control over this girl tonight, the exact opposite is actually true. How she reacts to seeing me and whether she spills her true intentions at my feet will decide how this night will go. She controls her own fate, but it won’t be easy for her. Some say I should come with a warning, because my resting face is fierce. Even though I’m not always a cold-hearted asshole, I look like I am. But I’ve always experienced that if they get past the rage on my face, the scars are always warning enough.
The feed continues to play as she tip-toes to the final door that she’ll have to try. The one she will open only because I want her to. “Come here, kitty kitty.” My deep whisper is eerie even to me, and although I’m trying to ignore the psychotic beat of my heart, I can’t help but smile at the awakened feeling of knowing I’m about to experience the thrill of a chase without even leaving my house.

Strawberry Cream Cake
Cake Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
Filling Ingredients:
1 pound strawberries - sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
1-1/2 cups heavy cream
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter or spray an 8-inch cake pan.
Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix butter and 1/2 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mix after each. Add in milk and flour, mixing until smooth.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes and let cool. Cut cake in the middle to layer filling between the two.
For filling and topping: In a large bowl, mix the strawberries and 1/4 cup sugar.
Use 2 tablespoons cold water in a saucepan, add gelatin, let soften for 5 minutes. Place saucepan over low heat, and whisk until gelatin is dissolved, then let cool.
Mix cream and remaining sugar in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Add gelatin mixture and mix until peaks form.
Split half of the strawberries and whipped cream and spread over the bottom layer, then use the remaining over the top cake layer. Refrigerate for a minimum of one hour.
