The car pulled up in front of Ray’s building and stopped. “Thanks,” Ray called to the driver before letting himself out.
What was so wrong with wanting to do his own thing? To see if he had the chops to make it on the basis of his abilities rather than what name he’d been born with? He’d never gotten a satisfactory answer from his father and after a while they’d settled into an uncomfortable stalemate on the subject. The less they interacted, the better.
Ray scrolled through his phone as the elevator spat him out into his condo. He found the number he was looking for and hit dial. After a couple rings, it went to voice mail. Thank the fucking lord.
“Hey, Ginny. It’s Ray. I need to talk to you about something. Call me back.”
