The Detective (Norcross Security #7)(27)
Author: Anna Hackett

Vander exited first, followed by Ace, then another man.

Hunt frowned. The guy was wearing an expensive, tailored, black suit. He had a sharp, handsome face, with ink-black hair, and black eyes. Those eyes were filled with piercing intelligence.

Suddenly, Savannah stiffened. Then she ran across the room. “Killian!”

She threw herself into the man’s arms. The guy held her tight, his eyes closing for a second.

Hunt crossed his arms over his chest, battling a bunch of emotions that erupted all at once, and resisting the urge to yank her away from the man.

Savannah hugged her best friend Saskia’s brother.

She hadn’t seen Killian since she’d left New York, but they’d emailed occasionally. It’d been Killian who had—against his own wishes—helped her run. He and his security company had helped put together her new identity.

“Damn, it’s good to see you, Susannah,” Killian said.

Killian Hawke looked like a sharp, lethal businessman, but he had a voice that made a woman blink. It always made her think of hot nights and melted chocolate.

“It’s Savannah now, remember?” She wasn’t sure she could be Susannah Hart again, even if Walkson was gone.

Killian touched her cheek. The man really was gorgeous, with his sharply defined features and piercing stare.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” he said.

Suddenly, a hand gripped her hip and pulled her away from Killian. She bumped against Hunt’s big body and he curled an arm around her chest.

She watched Vander’s lips twitch, and Ace grin.

“We haven’t met,” Hunt said, tone clipped.

She looked up and saw his jaw was set in hard lines.

“Hunt, this is Killian Hawke. A friend from New York.”

Killian and Hunt locked gazes, until Savannah frowned.

“Hey.” She elbowed Hunt. “Do not go all caveman on me, Hunter Morgan.”

His arm tightened.

Shaking her head, she went up on her toes and nipped the underside of his jaw. “Killian is my best friend Saskia’s brother. He helped me escape. He put my Savannah Cole identity together.”

Hunt’s arm loosened a fraction.

“Killian Hawke,” Killian said. “I own Sentinel Security in New York.”

Hunt nodded. “I’ve heard good things about your outfit. Cybersecurity?”

“Mostly.”

“Detective Hunter Morgan, SFPD.” He reached around Savannah, not letting her go, and shook Killian’s hand.

“My team picked up chatter about Savannah, and then I got word that someone had hacked our system, looking into Savannah’s ID.”

Ace grinned and buffed his nails on his shirt. “I didn’t dig deep, since we know you.”

Vander lifted his chin. “We’ve worked with Killian before. He knows Zane, Liam, and Mav.”

The three names registered with Savannah. “Wait, you know the Billionaire Bachelors of New York?”

Vander smiled. “They aren’t bachelors anymore. And yes, they’re friends, and Norcross Security does work for them on occasion.”

“Killian helped us out on a little job in New York,” Ace said. “Hence why I didn’t take a longer stroll through your system.”

Killian snorted. “You couldn’t have gotten any further, Oliveira.” The man’s dark eyes moved back to Savannah. “I called Vander and asked to be brought up to speed.”

“You didn’t have to come all this way.” Savannah smiled. “But I’m glad you did. I want to hear all about how Saskia is.”

A faint smile crossed Killian’s face. Man, these guys were all cut from the same cloth. Heaven forbid they show too much emotion.

“I have some letters from her.”

A shot of sadness hit Savannah. Her friend must have been so hurt when Savannah disappeared without a word. “Oh, I…” Her words dried up.

Hunt pressed her face to his chest.

“There’s a fresh pot of coffee in the kitchen,” Hunt said. “Let’s talk. But Savannah’s right, you didn’t have to come all this way. We’ve got her.”

Killian eyed him. “I’m sure, if you want her free of Walkson once and for all, you’ll take all the help you can get.”

Hunt nodded. “I want Walkson behind bars.”

Savannah squeezed Hunt’s arm. “I’ll get the coffee.”

A little while later, Savannah found herself sitting beside Hunt at the dining room table, trying not to think about the things he’d done to her on it yesterday. She fidgeted in her chair. Thank God she’d given it a thorough cleaning after their sexy shenanigans.

Killian and Ace sat on the other side of the table, and Vander sat at the head. Ace had his laptop open, and a projection up on the wall.

“Walkson is definitely in San Francisco and targeting Savannah,” Vander told Killian. “He took a shot at Hunt. Hired a sniper. A guy who’s ex-Army, and likes hunting. The man sang after a few pointed questions.”

Savannah’s stomach roiled. She’d come so close to losing Hunt.

“Walkson’s been hunting Savannah for four years,” Killian said. “He came close to finding her a couple times early on.”

“But luckily Killian warned me,” she said. “And I got better at covering my tracks.”

“He didn’t have her new name until now,” Killian said with a frown.

“How did he get it?” Hunt asked.

“No idea. Something definitely sent him to San Francisco.”

Savannah wrapped her arms around herself. “So how do we find him?”

Ace leaned forward. “I’m running searches, hoping to catch him on CCTV.”

“He’s smart,” Killian said. “High IQ, and thinks he’s clever. He knows how to avoid facial recognition. He often uses disguises, and wears glasses that reflect back light, distorting any capture of his face.”

“He just keeps coming.” Savannah blew out a breath. “I never understood why he fixated on me. At first, he said he loved my art, but then…”

Hunt gripped the back of her neck and squeezed. “There’s no rhyme or reason, baby. He’s sick.”

She dragged in a breath. Under the table, she put her hand on his thigh and he pressed his other hand over hers.

It was enough to steady her.

“Ace, I’ll have my guy hook in with you,” Killian said. “Hex is my best computer specialist.”

“Hacker,” Vander said dryly.

Killian smiled. “Yes. Walkson will be holed up close by. And he likes his creature comforts. He will be staying at a good hotel, and probably have a suite.”

Ace nodded. “I’m on it.”

Killian leaned forward, his hands steepled on the table. “There’s something else I haven’t told you, Savannah.”

Dread curdled in her belly. “Are my mom and brother okay?”

“They’re fine.” Killian blew out a breath. “You know I’ve kept tabs on you and Walkson, as best I could.”

She nodded, and tangled her fingers with Hunt’s under the table.

“In the cities where you’ve lived over the last four years, those times he almost caught you… Shit.”
