How The Heart Breaks(47)
Author: Stacey Marie Brown

“Emery? Hello?” Marcie clicked her long nails in front of my face. “Damn, girl. Don’t you know? First rule of using a hot piece of ass for sex is not to fall for that hot piece of ass.”

“I didn’t!”

She raised a brow.

“I swear.” I tossed my spoon on the table. “I’m fine.”

She barked out a laugh.

“You know, I thought you’d be another boring, run-of-the-mill white girl.” She spooned another scoop into her mouth. “You have surprised me, which is a high honor in my book.”

“Thanks?” I brushed back a loose strand. “I think I’ve shocked myself.”

“So, what are you going to do about it?”

“Nothing.” I stood up, dumping my items into the trash. “I can’t do anything.”

“Why? He no longer goes to school with Addison. He’s completely legal.”

“Not in a bar.”

“Bars are to get drunk and meet someone to take home. You already got him in bed.”

“I still can’t. Just because he’s not at school with Addison. He was… and she still really likes him.”

“Yes, and someday she will learn not everyone she likes will like her back. Something I doubt she had to deal with before.”

No, Addison was never hurting for male attention. She had never been broken up with or not liked back. Maybe that’s why Mason was such a mission for her.

“Addison is not in love with me. She loves the idea of me. Of being the one who “gets” the unattainable Mason James.”

I wagged my head, trying to push away his words. “It doesn’t matter. She comes first and foremost. She will get her heart broken someday, but I will not be the cause of it.”

“Okay. I get it. I do.” She stood up, tossing her stuff away. “But I also see it as you are missing out on something great for something that was never going to be hers anyway. Think you’re letting your fear keep you in a safe bubble.”

I shrugged her off, heading for the restroom to brush my teeth.

The day became even more strained when I had to assist Daniel with a root canal. He was direct and professional to the point of being awkward. He was purposefully treating me coldly.

“I need a break.” I pulled off my gloves, walking out of the room, relieved to get away from Dr. Ramirez after two hours of stress.

“One more.” Marcie pointed to the far room on the end, the one we nicknamed the cave because of how this old building was designed. It was tucked in the back with no windows.

“I will pay you to take it for me.”

“Nope. This one is all yours.”

“This is a trick, huh? Is it Billy?” I had seen him on the schedule. “You trying to get out of doing him yourself?”

She snickered, pointing me toward the room. “Just a little polishing.”

Annoyance wound through me, my mood plunging lower as I stomped back to the room. My irritation was high, my patience low. Stepping in, I reached for the glove box, wanting to get this done so I could go home.

“How are you doing tod—” The rest of my standard greeting halted on my tongue. My feet stuck to the floor.

He stood on the other side of the dental chair, wearing his gray sweats, jacket, and a black hat pulled down low, still dotted with raindrops. Everything about him enticed me to want him, invited me to touch, encouraged desire.

“Mason, what are you doing here?”

His mouth tipped up. “I’m here for my appointment.” He went around the chair, moving in on me, his body lining up with mine. “I think your friend, Marcie, said I get a free polish or something.” He grinned down, the insinuation warming my skin like a heating blanket.

“Mason, you can’t be here.”

“I told you.” He leaned into me, his hand skimming up my neck to my jaw. “All bets are off.”

He attacked my mouth. Fierce and demanding. Sucking and nibbling on my lower lip before his tongue claimed my mouth. He yanked on my ponytail, forcing the kiss to deepen.

Everything in me was set on fire. All my anger, guilt, and rage centered on him. Had an outlet. A focus. And I battled back, needing him to ruin me. To take everything I had left.

He broke away from me with a snarl, twisting me around and pushing me up against the wall. My cheek pressed against it as his hands came around, shoving up my bra and top, cupping my breasts. Every nerve was coiled tight, feeling everything with extra intensity.

“You’re gonna need to be very quiet, unless you want your doctor to hear us.” Mason bit into my ear as he yanked my pants and panties over my ass, his fingers sliding through me. “Fuck,” he hissed as I tried to hold back my moan. My body had never craved something so bad.

Sex at work would never have been something I considered. Ever. I always stayed in the lines. But with Mason? I couldn’t seem to do the appropriate thing. He made me want to break every rule, to burn down everything that kept me safe.

“Emery.” He breathed against my neck. He withdrew his fingers, replacing them with the head of his cock. He rubbed it against my entrance. Teasing. Taunting.

My nails curled into the wall, my teeth biting into my lip. “Mason…”

He thrust into me, and I slapped my hand over my mouth, choking over a moan as he filled me, stretching me around him.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” he hissed against my ear, taking a moment before he pulled back and drove in again.

Paint chips dug under my fingernails, and I blinked back tears of agony and bliss.

How did I ever think I could give this up? Nothing compared to how good he felt inside me, how unbelievable it was. It overwhelmed me, pulling me under, making me crave him.

One of his hands stayed on my hip, holding me so he could plunge even deeper, while his other hand fingered my clit, our pace picking up like were both on fire.

A drill from the room next to us tapped at my eardrum, heightening every nerve he hit, turning us into a frenzy of lust. The days we weren’t together contributed to our desperation, the vicious way we both demanded more, as if we needed to make up for every hour we’d been apart.

“Jesus, you’re so wet,” he growled in my ear. “They’re gonna hear me fucking you.” His fingers rubbed me harder. The sound of him thrusting into me was loud, but I couldn’t stop, hoping the office noise would still drown us out. “Do you like that? Knowing your boss is next door while you are getting fucked by me?” I clenched around him, his dirty words turning me on more than I expected.

And he felt my response.

I would never want to hurt Daniel. But nothing prepared me for someone like Mason. I had no choice to be the good person, to be considerate and appropriate. Mason wiped all that off the board and then bent me over it.

He pushed me harder into the partition, my sensitive nipples rubbing over the textured wall. Small cries jumped from my throat; I couldn’t keep them inside.

Mason pulled out of me and I hissed in displeasure. He dragged me with him, sitting back on the dental chair. I climbed over him, straddling him, his cock glistening with my wetness. Gripping him, I sunk down on him. Mason jolted, my hand slamming over his mouth to keep his moan quiet as I rode him. Hard.

Both of us watched how his cock thrust in and out of me.
