Paige opened the letter, wondering what it could be. The moment she saw the writing there, though, Paige felt like something cold had washed through her blood, all the way to her heart.

I saw the news that the Exsanguination Killer has re-emerged. Quite fascinating, in their own way. I’m sure you’re sitting there in that apartment of yours, poring over all the details, trying to find some way to get to the murderer who killed your father. And failing, of course. You don’t have the information you need.

All the time you were talking to me and you never asked the one question that matters. I know who the Exsanguination Killer is, Paige.

Paige found herself breathing faster at that name. Adam Riker had written to her. Paige had thought that he was gone from her life, and he’d written to her.
Paige’s first instinct was to tear up the letter. Her second was to call the institute to ensure that Adam could never do it again. To make sure that he never contacted her again, and to ignore him.
But Paige couldn’t ignore him, not after what he’d just written.
“He’s lying,” Paige said to herself. “He has to be.”
But what if he wasn’t? Adam Riker was smart and resourceful to an almost frightening degree. Was it possible that he actually had found out something about the Exsanguination Killer?
Paige knew that if she ignored that possibility, she would always regret it, and that meant exactly one thing:
