Lost Girl(22)
Author: Elena Trueblood

Cobra looks at us, Priest just a head shorter than me now that I’ve had another growth spirt. Now I could see the faint freckle on the side of Priest nose, something I hadn’t noticed before, but then again I’ve noticed more and more things about Priest that I hadn’t before. Like how her teeth aren’t perfectly straight, but the slight turn in her front tooth is barely noticeable, and that her fingers that she’s currently got wrappers around the handle of the gun Cobra had us using for practice, her index finger is long and thin like the rest of her fingers, is held away from the trigger just as Cobra had been teaching us for the last three years.

“Name one time you wouldn’t want a weapon?” Cobra asks us suddenly.

“Ummm…” I am unprepared for this question, so I am not surprised that Priest is ready. She has always been a fast leaner.

“I don’t want a weapon on me if I’m trying to be in a relationship, like ‘One second hon, just gotta put my gun in the safe so I can fuck you’,” Priest says, and my jaw drops. Cobra narrows his eyes at her and if that had been me I would have been shitting my pants, but Priest just looks at him, daring him to say something about how she shouldn’t be having sex with anyone, or how she’s too young.

“You never leave your gun in a safe, especially if you are sleeping with a man, because even the nicest men can fuck you over, and not in the pleasurable sense. You keep your gun under your pillow,” Cobra says in all seriousness.

Priest thinks that over, while I stare at the both of them, trying to keep my jaw from dropping.

“Alright, I’ll promise to always put my gun under my pillow, until I know a person can be trusted.”

“Even then Priest,”

She cuts him off, “So your saying that if you had a wife, you’d still be sleeping with a gun under you’re your pillow? That if you were sleeping with Mom, you’d have a gun under your pillow? Get real Cobra,” she raises her eyebrow at him like hes insane, and I kinda see it. Like no way would Cobra sleep with a gun under his pillow in a bed with Lene.

He sighs, but it doesn’t hide the tinge of pink at the top of his ears.

“Fine. When you know that person values you above themselves, that they love you as much as you love them, that that person can be trusted beyond anything, then and old then would it be acceptable to put your gun somewhere other than under your pillow,” Cobra says, and she smiles brightly, holds out an empty hand and shakes as if she just made a deal.

I don’t stop the appreciative rumble that fills my chest, just the sight of her, showing me just how much she trusted me with her safety, I couldn’t think of what could make this moment even more better.

And then she unhooks her bra and I gulp.

Because damn I didn’t expect that.

I’ve seen her mostly naked, laying on a table to get patched up, but never had I looked at her bod the way I am now.

“You gonna stand in the shower the whole time?” she asks, a laugh seemingly stuck in her throat.

She was right, the water had started to run a bit cool, so I smile at her, rip the towel off the rack and roughly dry myself off, and when I look back at her, she is

Boss was obviously pissed at the way Priest dismissed him, then again he’s never had to deal with someone who treats him like an average Joe before.

While I would never say this to Alonzo, he kind of deserved this less than warm reception with how he was acting. But it seems Giovani is of a like mind with the Boss so, I’m sure were going to end up doing something to set her off even more.

I contain my sigh.

I like Priest, and think she has a right to choose this, to understand that we would be there for her just like her crew.

Trust is eared after all.

But here we are, sitting in a limo after having parked the SUV a few blocks away, parked in front of Bones’ building, like some scum stalkers, Alonzo in his usual seat in the center of the back bench.

“I want her at the house the minute she walks out of this building alone.” He says, barely containing his anger.

Tony’s eyes snap to his face, and reading Tony as do, I can see that he thinks this is a mistake as well. I look away from Tony to look at Giovani, the usual calm leader, the voice of reason, and find him nodding.

“On it Boss,” he says, looking down at his phone as he quickly starts typing.

“Good.”

I don’t get a chance to speak my mind until Alonso leaves an hour later. In that time we watch the building that looks like a multitude of office buildings, but Giovani’s intel informs us that Bones lives in the penthouse. He also pulls up a dossier on Bones, including information on his girlfriend. That dossier is how we know Angel Demarco is the pretty little black haired woman who left the building thirty or so minutes after Alonzo’s left. She was pretty, in that petite way, and it makes the fact that Bones obviously loves Priest even more intriguing, because the man couldn’t have fallen for two very different women if he’d tried.

If it were me, I’d have never settled for anything less than that fierce woman who’s about to be the head of the family.

Not that I’m telling anyone that.

“Looks like she’s taking an overnight bag,” Tony notes, curiosity in his voice.

“Well, it says here that while she lives with him, she often stays over at her lover’s place,” Luca says, amusement filling his voice.

That snaps my attention to Luca, “What?” my voice is sharp, because I can’t see Bones being stupid enough to let her cheat on him. Might have only known him a few hours, it was still plan to see that the man had pride, and was a big believer of loyalty.

“Say’s right here that she is polyamorous, she has multiple partners at a time, but Bones is the only long term relationship she’s committed to.” Luca says, and the tenson in the car racks up a few more notches.

No one says anything though, and that in itself if interesting and makes me question where everyone’s head is at.

Luca and Giovani are the only ones interested in reading the dossier. I don’t because I know I’d be pissed if anyone read a dossier on me, and I also realize the likelihood of us having to get along with Bones and Alonzo is mighty high, I don’t want to take the chance of slipping up and saying something I am not supposed to know.

“What do you think the Wives are going to do with Priest when they get their hands on her?” Luca asks suddenly, the dossier no longer right in front of his face.

“Cry horror at her hair, make her get a manicure, and change everything about her,” Giovani says confidently.

Both Tony and I Scoff at the same time, and we share a look. It’s not often that Tony and I see eye to eye on things, he’s usually too busy trying to crack jokes than to think too deeply at a situation that doesn’t require him to pull fingernails form their beds.

“They’ll be lucky if she doesn’t rip out their extensions.” Tony mutters, and I fight back a smile at the image that statement draws.

“Screw the extensions, she’ll draw that fucking gun on them when they immediately try to come at her clothes. No way in hell would she be able to draw that gun in one of those fucking cocktail dresses they love to wear.” I say.
