IN WALKED SIN (The Touch Series #5)(69)
Author: Stoni Alexander

“I’m texting Jacoby to bring him in,” Sin said.

“She handled herself well,” Crockett said. “Very cool.”

“Yeah,” Sin said. “She’s pretty damn awesome.”

Tap-tap-tap.

“Come in,” Sin said.

“I tried,” Evangeline said. “Where can I wait?”

“You can watch from next door,” Sin said.

She eyed the one-way mirror on the wall. “Whatever it takes, get him to talk.” She held his gaze before turning on her heel and shutting the door behind her.

“Jacoby’s bringing him in.” Sin eyed each of the men. “We’ve waited a long time for this. You guys ready?”

“Hell, yeah,” Maverick said.

“Fourteen years ready,” Dakota said, cracking his knuckles.

A moment later, Jacoby knocked, then opened the door and shoved Monty in. From across the room, Monty locked eyes with Sin. His gaze shifted to Dakota, then back to Sin. Next, his cold stare hovered on Maverick and Colton and Crockett. One by one, he glared at each of these men. When finished, his icy stare settled on Sin.

“Hail, hail, the gang’s all here,” Monty said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Sin stared into the eyes of the cold-blooded killer. This man had once been their friend, their business partner. But he couldn’t go back in time and he couldn’t rewrite history. In this moment, all that mattered was finding an innocent woman and her child. All that mattered was trying to save lives, not destroy them. All that mattered was stopping this sociopath from leaving the devastation of every life he touched in his selfish, destructive, hateful wake.

“Hello, Monty,” he bit out.

“I thought for sure I’d killed you this time. How is it that you just won’t fucking die?”

“You can’t kill the devil, Monty. You know that.” Anger seethed through his pores. “Have a seat. Let’s catch up.”

“How fun.” Monty’s upper lip curled. “I love reunions.”

Jacoby shoved Monty into the chair. Sin studied him while Monty sat there, expressionless. Was he afraid, intimidated, concerned? Was he filled with arrogance or under a delusion that he could get away with something, again? He appeared void of any emotion whatsoever. If he felt anything, he was an expert at concealing it.

“I have one question,” Sin said. “And after you answer it, we can get caught up. You know, reminisce about old times.”

“Fuck you,” Monty rasped.

“Where are Hannah and her baby?”

Leaning back, Monty shrugged. “How the hell should I know?”

Sin laid his palms on the table. “I have no patience when it comes to you and Dakota is itching to break every bone in your good-for-nothing body. Answer the question, Monty. Where are they?”

“I’m not telling you douchebags a goddamn thing.”

“You’re a mess,” Maverick said.

“Monty,” Colton said, “you remember what happens when Sin gets angry. He gets even. And you know how crazy Dakota is. Answer the damn question.”

Monty stared at the one-way mirror, then at Sin. “Is Evangeline watching your every macho move? She’s not interested in you. You were a—what did she call you?—a one-night distraction.” He threw his head back and laughed, the shrillness piercing Sin’s ears. “Ouch. She’s way out of your league, asshole.”

Monty had no leverage where Evangeline was concerned. “Monty, you’ve fucked with me for the last time.”

“I fucked with you?” Monty shouted. “We were friends and you turned me in. You got me kicked out of Harvard. Harvard, you asshole. Harvard!”

“You got yourself expelled because you cheated,” Dakota said. “You stole two hundred and twenty grand from us, you tried to kill my brother, and you murdered an innocent sheriff’s deputy. Bravo, Monty.”

“Who’s the real douchebag?” Maverick asked.

Monty flipped him the finger.

“Over the past decade, you’ve scammed dozens of women out of millions of dollars.” Sin narrowed his gaze. “Your family must be so proud of you.”

“Fuck you.”

“You’re obsessed with Evangeline, but eliminating me won’t win you the girl.” He paused. “Evangeline doesn’t want you. She never wanted you. You disgust her.”

Monty jumped up and Jacoby, Dakota, and Maverick drew their weapons.

“Easy, ladies,” Monty said, backing down. “My business partner came up with me from Florida and you killed him. You fucked with my business and took out my best guy. You know I always follow through on my threats. I was just getting even.”

He is Uncle Charlie. Sin tossed his brother a nod.

Dakota leaned down behind Monty and whispered, “You tried to kill my best guy. How ‘bout this?” Dakota lifted him out of the chair, slammed him against the wall, and wrapped his fingers around his throat. “You explain to us what business you’re talking about and I won’t fuck up that ugly mug of yours.” He turned back to Sin. “You know how much I hate this motherfucker, right?”

“I need answers,” Sin said. “Now.”

Dakota continued squeezing for several more seconds, releasing him just before he passed out. Monty coughed and gasped for air while holding his neck. Dakota threw him back into the chair.

“Speak,” Sin rasped, his patience long gone.

“After Pete went to collect that girl’s baby, he vanished.” Monty sucked down a breath. “I dug around, learned The Fixer took the woman and her kid back to her rich parents. I stood to make an easy ten grand on that sweet deal. You screwed me over. Just like you got me expelled. So what if I turned in your papers with my name on them? And about our business?” He stared at each of the men at the table. “I managed that money. I grew those profits. That money was mine to take.”

As the two men glared at each other across the conference table, Sin said, “You torched my club.”

Monty’s lips split into a menacing smile. “I had no idea that accelerant would be so fast acting.”

“You ran me off the road.” The controlled rage in his voice snagged everyone’s attention.

Monty’s smug expression boosted Sin’s hatred of him. “I hate failing, don’t you?” Monty asked.

Eyeing his mortal enemy, Sin said, “I wouldn’t know. I. Don’t. Fail.” His cold stare bore into him. “Ever.”

Dakota grabbed Monty’s wrist. “You’re right handed, aren’t you?”

“Get the fuck away from me,” Monty bit out.

“Hold him down,” Sin said, before pushing out of his chair. “I’m gonna break his finger.”

Though Monty struggled, Dakota and Jacoby held him in place. Hatred and revenge spurred Sin forward. Glaring over him, he yanked his pinky up, then snapped it backward.

Monty shrieked. “Okay, okay.” Beads of sweat covered his brow. “I’ll talk.”

Dakota and Jacoby backed off.

Pressing his palms on the table, Sin loomed over him. “Why did you target Hannah?”

“Ow, motherfucker.” Wincing, Monty cradled his hand. “I was hired to do some jobs in the area. Hannah was an easy mark. That naïve chick was gullible as hell, man.” Monty’s arrogance only fueled Sin’s anger. “I’d convinced her to give me her baby, but when she changed her mind, I was done. That’s two for two. Time to cut my losses and move on.”
