Kisses and Warfare(15)
Author: T.L. Smith

Blaze waits until he’s gone before his angry eyes fasten on me. His arms cross over his chest. “Why the fuck are you still here?”

I squint at him. Really look at him and take him in. He’s tanned, probably from all the motorcycle riding he does, and his dark hair is perfect. Jeans hang low on his hips, and he’s wearing a white shirt and vest. I know what it says on the back without him even turning around to show me.

“Why the fuck are you here? That’s the real question. Did you not leave earlier?” I ask, looking back down, so my eyes don’t stare at him longer than necessary. Because if they do, I may start undressing him with them.

“I came to check everything was fine and saw your car still sitting outside,” he says with a head shake. “Do you have a death wish?”

“Hey, Blaze…” I smile at him. “Do you want to fuck to get out some of that frustration you got going on? I mean, it could help loosen you up a bit.” I smile. His mouth drops open, and then he closes it fast. He shakes his head infinitesimally and runs a hand through his perfect hair, messing it up. And all I can think about is how I wish it were me who had done it, making it not so perfect anymore.

“Did you just…” He shakes his head as my phone starts ringing again, and I see the private number and swear, throwing it into my purse as I finalize everything.

Walking up to him, I tap his chest. “Come on, big boy, walk me to my car now that you’ve sent Fred home,” I say, then keep walking. At first, I don’t hear his footsteps behind me, so I think he’s letting me walk by myself, which makes no sense since he’s angry I’m here this late at night, and that’s when I hear him. His steps catch up to mine, and he gets to the door before I do, holding it open for me. Finding the right key, I lock it and turn to him. “So, that’s a no on the fucking then?” I ask him.

To my surprise, his mouth doesn’t open again.

He just smirks at me. “You really like to fuck with me, don’t you, Katarina?”

Damn! I grind my teeth at the use of that name.

“I asked you to stop calling me that.”

“Well, I hate the name Kat.”

“Why?” I ask.

“Because the last Kat I knew was a bitch. Are you a bitch, Katarina?”

“I could very well be,” I say sassily.

Taking a step away from him, I turn to go to my car and see his bike parked right next to me. Just as I reach my car, I hear the rev of engines, and four bike lights shine on us as they pull in. They are blocking my path to get out.

“Fuck!” I hear Blaze mutter under his breath as he walks ahead of me and blocks me with his body. His hand goes to the back of his trousers, and as he lifts it, I see the tip of something dark.

A gun?

What the fuck?

“What is going on?” I hiss at him.

Blaze doesn’t answer, simply stares ahead as the same guy from earlier gets off his ride.

“Blaze, Blaze…” He shakes his head. “Seems you’re here all by yourself this time. And with a sweet piece of ass. Is she yours?” one asks. The asshole doesn’t get off his bike, just removes his helmet. He is definitely the same guy from earlier this evening.

“You should leave. You know you aren’t welcome here. You’re trespassing on private property.”

“Do you plan to remove me?” he cracks his neck side to side. Taking a deep breath, his beady eyes lock on me. “She’s a pretty thing,” he says, eyeing me from where I stand behind Blaze.

I step to the side and fist my keys in my hand. “Unless you want the cops called, you should leave. Now, if you boys don’t mind, I have somewhere I need to be.” I unlock my car as one of the guys speaks, “I can pay you. Isn’t that what you do… take money from men to show your body? Here’s twenty, show me your tits.”

I look up to see one man throw a twenty my way.

“Take that twenty and shove it right up your ass, asshole.”

“Katarina,” Blaze hisses next to me, quiet enough that no one else but me can hear him.

“Don’t hog her, Blaze. We like them fiery,” another says.

“She was just leaving.”

I step forward to reach for his arm that’s touching the gun, pulling it. “You’re coming with me, too,” I say, then look up to the guys on bikes who aren’t off them yet, but the way they’re looking at Blaze says they will be any second. “And I suggest you all go home.” I point to a camera near the door. “That goes directly to my security inside, and one wave of my hand they call the police. So, boys… tell me. Should I wave?” I hold my hand up but don’t wave it.

“We were just passing through. No need to call them,” one says, putting on his helmet and revving his engine next to us.

The other, who has done most of the talking, looks at me. “Wave your hand,” he dares me, trying to call my bluff.

My phone rings and I reach for it, smiling as I look at him and answer it, “Yes, no problem. They were just going. But if they don’t, go ahead and call them,” I say into the phone, having no idea who’s on the other end.

“Kat,” I freeze at that voice.

Fuck! Why does he keep calling?

I hang up quickly as they all start to leave. The last one smiles at me, sliding on his own helmet before he also pulls out, kicking up dirt as he peels away.

I walk around to my side of the car and slide in, looking back down at my phone.

Fuck! I have to stop answering him.

The door to my passenger side swings open, and in hops Blaze, eyes fiery as he turns to face me. “You are a fucking fool,” he says, his hand going up to my dash, his fists squeezed tightly.

“Get out of my car.”

“Do you have a death wish? I fucking knew they would be back tonight, and here you are acting as if it’s nothing.”

My phone rings again, and we both look down to it to see the private number flashing.

I silence it and look back up to him. “Look, I saved your ass. Now get out of my car so I can go home.”

The phone starts vibrating again, and he looks down as he speaks, “Who was it who called you before?”

“No one,” I say, just as he reaches for my phone and answers it. A quick, “Yes,” is all he gives the caller on the other end. “Who the fuck is this?” he asks.

I reach for it, but he pulls back, making me get up on my knees on my car seat to pull my phone away from him. I manage to get it, my body leaning toward his, and he lifts a hand and grips onto my waist then looks to me. “Some man wasn’t happy for me to answer.”

“Good! Now get out, so I can go home to my daughter.”

That seems to unfreeze him, and he drops my waist and shakes his head. “Send me your work schedule. Every night, someone will be here to walk you out, so that never happens again.”

“I have Fred,” I say as Blaze slides out of my car.

“Fred isn’t equipped to deal with this shit.”

“Deal with what? Your boy stupidity,” I say, shaking my head while starting my car.

He leans down so his head is in my passenger doorway. “Those boys…” he says the words in a venom laced tone, “… will eat you for breakfast.”
