“I’ll take the negative,” Zoey said, pulling a twenty out of her wallet and slapping it down the counter. “I know my friend, and God love her, but she is a tough one.” As she slapped down the bill, she couldn’t help but admire her ring that sparkled from the natural sunlight creeping into the apartment from the sliding glass door.
“I think she’ll bring him,” Caroline said. She ran off to get into her purse, handing Brady a twenty.
“I agree with Zoey,” Brady said, putting his twenty down. “I have to win this one. I lost to Dan for you two getting together.”
“Then I’ll agree with Caroline. Since I believe in true love and overcoming obstacles,” Jonathan said.
“I love you, honey, but you’re going down,” Zoey said, standing up to Jonathan.
“No, you are.”
“You already have this marriage thing down,” Brady said. “Caroline and I argue on who empties the dishwasher more. Makes for great foreplay.” Caroline play-punched Brady in the chest.
Jonathan took Zoey into his arms and swayed side to side with her, holding each other’s gaze. “I love you. I’m glad this is the way our lives turned out and we made it here.”
Zoey reached up for a kiss. “I’m glad we’re here too.”
