We all clap, Tobias hoots, and the dachshunds bark excitedly. When the cats cringe inside their carrier, Bea tries to comfort them through the little bars.
“It will be in December,” Amelia says, “at the Lazy Dog Ranch, Isabel and Tobias’s dude ranch up near Nederland.” She touches Isabel’s arm with a grateful smile.
“A Christmas wedding in the mountains! So exciting,” Bea says.
“Your save the date cards should arrive any day now. We hope you all can come,” Amelia says before she and Travis follow Sarah, Ben, and Max into the RV.
Joe and I say goodbye to the group and point ourselves toward the food. I have a hankering for an ice cream cookie sandwich from the Bovine Divine food truck. “I can’t believe they’re finally getting married! It seems like they’ve been engaged for years. Would you like to go?”
Joe slings his arm around me. “Of course. I’ll go anywhere, so long as I’m with you.”
I turn my face up to the bright sun. Shakespeare would have a sly, funny line to offset Joe’s sweet romantic one, but I can’t think of anything else to add. Because it’s the plain truth for both of us. When we’re together, everything is right in the world.
We had a rough start, but all’s well that ends well, as the bard would say.
And Joe and I would never argue with Shakespeare.
