Year Two (Bloodshed Academy Book 2)(46)
Author: Jen L. Grey

At this point, we’d told her this much. “Yes, and we have her in my dorm, hiding.” However, I wasn’t going to volunteer information about what had happened to Nate.

“A half-breed is here?” Her shoulders sagged a little. “But the society will figure it out.”

“No, we stole her while they were busy inside a gas station.” Rage gently squeezed my fingers. “They didn’t know we were following them. We were supposed to head back after they took her from the skating rink.”

“That’s why Cole gave such a preposterous story that involved skating.” A small grin spread across her face.

I’d never seen this lady come so close to smiling, and it caught me off guard. It showed that Cole could charm anyone. “Yeah, but they aren’t part of it. We had him to help us follow them. Only Rage and I are in it. But obviously, not for much longer.” I wasn’t about to let her know who all was involved.

“I’ll take care of the half-breed in your room. I have a safe place for her to go. You, however, need to stay.” She stood again. “I’ve been wanting a way to figure out who the players are, and now you’ve given it to me.”

“What are they doing to the hybrids they’ve taken?” If this was all about power, the answer probably isn’t a good one.

“I’m not sure.” Isadora began pacing once more. “That’s one thing we need to figure out.”

“I don’t know.” The thought of helping them capture more half-breeds made my stomach turn, especially now that I knew the truth. “I can’t keep up this charade.”

“Yes, you may have to help them catch a few more, but that could lead to us figuring out what they’re doing to all of them.” She looked at me, not even bothering to address Rage. “No matter who is involved, there is at least one person who has high ranking in the overall supernatural council. In all honesty, there are several that are corrupt. They let you in for a reason, so you and Rage are the only ones I can trust. Together we can bring them down.”

“It’s not fair to put that much pressure on us.” Rage’s shoulders tensed, ready to take on the headmaster for the both of us.

“No, she’s right.” She was right. This was only going to get worse if we didn’t try to prevent it. “We need to figure out who all is involved and take them down.”

“Are you sure?” Rage turned toward me and brushed his fingers along my cheek. “This isn’t our fight.”

Except it kind of was. They were painting a picture of hybrids as a bad thing. Making Jess and Cole feel as if their relationship was tainted and wrong. Instead of bringing all races together, the society was hellbent on ripping them apart. That’s not how it was meant to be. With both of their kind hearts, no matter what happened, I knew they would do the right thing. “She’s right. Think of Angel. She didn’t deserve this tonight. We need to help her. We need to help all of them.”

“If it means that much to you, I’m in. I just don’t want you to keep getting hurt.”

“I couldn’t live with myself if I knew there was a chance that we could make a difference and we turned our backs on them.” The more I thought about it, the more confident I became in the decision.

“You’re right.” Rage turned to Isadora. “I’m in.”

“Great, but you guys need to carry on just like before. Act like you believe it.” Isadora straightened her shoulders and grinned. “Now let me get the girl situated before more eyes begin searching for her.”

For the first time in my life, I had a purpose that I fully believed in. A future that I had determined all on my own, and I was ready.
