I put the test on the table and grab her by the waist. Angie gives up and takes a seat on my lap. Her eyes are sparkling with tears, and she smiles.
I smile in response.
I can't believe it. She's pregnant. My wife, the love of my life, is pregnant with our first child.

"Well, I decided to quit taking pills after we moved into our new house five months ago, and this month my period was almost three weeks late…"
"Three weeks?!" I almost yell. "You knew you were pregnant for three weeks and you didn't tell me?"
"No, babe, it's not like that." She cups my face in her hands to calm me down.
I'm not mad, I'm just overreacting. Despite how much I wanted a baby, it's still a shock to me.
"I didn't do a test on purpose," she continues, brushing my hair. "I wanted it to be a surprise for us both, so I waited and bought a test yesterday. Five tests, actually, and they were all positive."
I blink rapidly, unable to speak, holding her so tight it’s as if I think she’ll disappear.
"I can't believe you waited for so long," I whisper, because it seems like I’ve lost my voice.
"Yeah, me too," she laughs and gives me a quick kiss. "But it was worth the wait. You should see your face."
