It’s been over eight years since I moved back to Harper Falls. The reason I was forced to come home wasn’t a happy one, but it led me to a life I wouldn’t have if I never came back. As much as I thought I could get over everything that happened with Brent on my own and with my parents’ and Cam’s support, I couldn’t.
Two months after the shooting I started going to therapy to work through my feelings. There were so many feelings. My therapist helped to pull things out of me I never realized were there. She even had Cam join me for a couple of months to work through how we treated each other in school.
Life is messy. It’s hard. But it’s also beautiful.
Six months after moving back to Harper Falls, I moved out of my parents’ home and into Cam’s. He has always been one hundred percent sure about us and our relationship while I’ve struggled with my doubts. Cam never let me give up on us and stood by to show me the man he was now.
Cam gave me the time I needed to wrap my head around everything while loving and supporting me. When I felt as if something was missing in my life, he encouraged me to begin editing my clients’ books again. I don’t know how he knew, but working on books again helped me more than he’ll ever know. It made me feel more like myself than I had in months.
He never rushed me into anything I wasn’t ready for. Two years to the day we saw each other at Brew for You, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most adorable proposal, and of course, I cried. I was taking orders behind the counter when he walked in at seven-thirty to get his morning coffee.
“What can I get for you, Occifer?” I smirked, using the name Dani and his sister used. When I was turned around pouring his black coffee he answered.
“A wife.”
“Excuse me?” I turned around, finding him down on one knee and holding out a ring. “I want you, Monroe Elizabeth Drake, to be my wife. I want you to marry me and take my last name. I want you to say you’ll be mine forever. I want to be everything you need now until the end of time.”
“Girl, get your ass around that counter and talk to your man,” Dani laughed as she bumped my hip with hers. I was shaking as I walked around the counter.
Cam turned to face me, still holding the ring in the air. “What do you say, sweetheart? Will you marry me?”
Happy tears sprung to my eyes as I fell to my knees in front of him. “Yes,” I said holding out my hand.
“Yes?” He smirked. “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” I laughed covering my mouth as he slid the ring on my finger. “I love you, Cam Beckett!”

We were married three months later in a small ceremony surrounded by our close friends and family.
Cam is still working for the Harper Falls Police Department and I work from home while taking care of our children, Kelsey, Bella, and little Cameron. All three of them are under five, and all three of them drive me crazy. I’m happier than I’ve ever been and wouldn’t change it for the world.
“Hey sweetheart, I’m stopping by the grocery store on the way home. Anything you need me to pick up?” Cam asks while driving home from work.
“Milk.”
“We always need milk.”

I wrack my brain trying to figure out what we need but never figure it out. When Cam gets home I help him unpack the bags, but don’t see anything that we really needed.
