Promise Me(20)
Author: Ashlee Rose

I just wanted to enjoy my night.

My mum had called a stylist and make-up artist in for me and Robyn, which I was grateful for. I had sort of let myself go a bit being bed-bound for nearly two months. We had my dress made as going shopping was off the cards; last thing I wanted to do was walk around on crutches looking at dresses that I needed help in and out of. The seamstress was brilliant and listened to everything I liked and didn’t like.

I decided on a black, A-line gown. I wasn’t a girly girl, but you only get prom night and your wedding to go all out, so why wouldn’t I go for the full shebang?

I stood and looked at myself in the mirror, smiling from ear to ear at how I looked. The dress had thin black spaghetti straps running over my shoulders that tied round my neck, giving me an open back. The neck-line plunged down into a V which stopped just before my waist, it was a bit risqué for prom, but I loved it.

A satin belt ran around my tiny waist, forming a bow that sat just above the bottom of my spine. The skirt was a long, black tulle overlay which sat over the top of a fitted black skirt that had two thigh splits either side, revealing a little too much skin, but this was all for him. I wanted a reaction from Conor, knowing full well that I was going to get one from him in this gown.

My mum was a bit sceptical at first, but after pleading and giving her my puppy dog eyes, she finally agreed. I was donning my all black converse which I think just took the edge off just how sexy this dress was.

My hair was pulled half up, half down. The hair that was down was styled into loose curls that tumbled past my breasts and sat just underneath my rib cage. My eyes were smoky, but not overly. I had eyeliner on my top eyelids, mascara that made my lashes look so long and thick, my blue eyes shining like crystals, and a light brushing of bronzer making my tanned skin pop even more.

My lips were finished off with a matte, bright red lipstick. I was pulled from looking at myself when Robyn walked in the room.

“Damn, girl, you look hot as hell. Conor is going to lose his mind,” she said as she waltzed over to me, taking my hand and spinning me round.

“Me? What about you, you’re on fire,” I complimented her back.

She was wearing a figure-hugging, bandeau red gown that went all the way to the floor, a slit sitting up her left thigh as she pointed her white converse out and moved it side to side. Her beautiful, red hair was pulled to the side in a low bun. She looked stunning. Chase was a lucky guy.

After I had asked Conor, Chase asked Robyn, which made my heart swell. My best friend and my brother were going on a date, it was so sweet.

My mum appeared in the doorway, taking pictures on her phone before handing us both a glass of champagne. Me and Robyn clinked our glasses together as we took a big mouthful, both giggling to each other.

I walked over to my bed, grabbing my bag. I heard a noise outside which made me move towards my window.

Conor was standing there in an all-black tuxedo, sorting my brothers bow-tie out. Behind them was a limousine with the door open, waiting for us.

A huge smile graced my face as I looked down at him. He was so handsome. My heart was pirouetting in my chest at the sight of him, the hairs on the back of my neck standing up when he looked up at me, a small smile appearing.

I turned from the window and made my way downstairs, holding my skirt with one hand as I tiptoed down the stairs gracefully, calling out for Robyn to come as I waltzed towards him, stopping at the top step outside, the soft summer breeze blowing, my hair being pulled with it gently.

My eyes were on him, looking him up and down as he turned from Chase to face me. His eyes widened slowly, drawing up and down my body, and his mouth opened before he pushed his tattooed hand up to his mouth, rubbing his index finger over his bottom lip before pulling it between his teeth, his glorious lips forming into a smirk.

He rushed over to me, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me to him, bringing his mouth to my ear.

“You look fucking breath taking, how the hell am I meant to keep my hands off of you tonight?” he groaned, setting a fire off deep inside me.

“That’s the point, Royce,” I teased.

“Oh, Darcey, baby girl,” he moaned out.

I dipped my head down, giggling and pushing him away slightly before his lips were on mine, his tongue in my mouth, caressing and massaging mine on every stroke. My arm snaked up round his neck, pulling him into me more. His fingers ran over the material of my skirt and up my thigh, causing my breath to hitch as he pulled away.

He rested his forehead on mine, his breathing harsh and fast. “You, Darcey Sawyer, are fucking delectable,” he said, stepping away and taking my hand, pulling me into the back of the limo, smiling at Chase who had a smile like a Cheshire cat when he saw his girl.

After a short limo ride, we pulled up outside the school, nerves started flitting through me. It was bad enough being the loner of the school, but for the loner to turn up with the king, that was something to be gossiped about and glared at.

The limo driver stepped out the car and opened our door, Conor getting out first as he re-adjusted his tux jacket then held his hand out to help me. I put one foot out, my bare leg on show as he helped pull me up, his arm swooping behind me as he kept me close, walking towards the main entrance.

I could feel the burning eyes of jealous girls on me, but I didn’t care. I was with him, he was with me. That was all that mattered.

As we walked into the school, he pecked me on the cheek before we had to stand for our photos. We stood to the side and waited for Robyn and Chase to make their grand entrance. They looked so good together. Deep down, I was hoping they would both just admit their feelings for one another and get it over with.

After the photos we made our way through to the main ballroom, the theme being Kings & Queens. Quite fitting seeing as I was with the king of Buck Hall.

“Drink, baby?” he asked as I took in the extravagant surroundings. Glitz and crowns everywhere.

“Yeah, please, champagne.” I smiled as him and Chase walked towards the bar.

“How amazing did it feel to walk past those bitches?” Robyn shouted in my ear over the music.

“Pretty amazing.” I laughed. “Can you believe we are actually here, with Chase and Conor?”

“I know, crazy. And we were thinking of boycotting it.” She shook her head. “So glad we didn’t.”

“Me too, boo, me too.”

Within minutes Conor was back, his arms snaking round my waist as he pulled me into him, his mouth on my ear, nibbling softly.

“I want to take you home.” His tone was laced with seductiveness. My belly flipped. I downed my champagne before leaning my head back on his chest, his mouth on my neck as he planted soft kisses down to my shoulder before we lost contact, a whimper leaving me.

“Dance with me?” he said as he took my hand and spun me out, my skirt fanning.

“Always, Mr Royce,” I cooed back at him.

He pulled me towards him before his hand found its way to my waist again, my arms up round his neck as we danced to The Calling, “Wherever you will go.”

The lights dimmed around us, the rest of the room blurred as I stared into his beautiful, green eyes. They hypnotized me. I was drunk off the sight of him. His neck craned down before he kissed me slowly. A slow, meaningful kiss.

As we pulled away, I smiled up at him, his eyes soft and hazy. I just couldn’t get enough of him. The chemistry was crackling between us, and I knew he felt it just as strongly as me. I didn’t want to be here anymore, I wanted to go home with him. I wanted him, this was the moment I had been waiting for. I wanted him to claim me as his own.
