Promise Me(4)
Author: Ashlee Rose

He owned this school, like the fucking king he was.

But he wasn’t the king to me, no, not in my world. In my world he was no more than the joker who karma was going to catch up with sooner rather than later.

I hoped.

I walked into the exam hall, Robyn behind me as we searched the rows for our names. I gave her a small smile and mouthed, “good luck,” as I took my seat, letting out a sigh of relief when I saw Chase sitting next to me.

“How you feeling?” I asked him.

“Yeah, okay, going to boss it.” He laughed, turning around in his seat and raising his eyebrows at me. “How about you?”

“Yeah, not bad, think I’ve got it.” I nodded slightly, nibbling the inside of my mouth.

“Course you’ve got it. You’ll be fine, Darcey.” He reached back and stroked my hand. “Promise,” he muttered before turning around in his seat.

I took a couple of deep breaths and laid my pencil, pen and calculator out next to me, when my eyes were pulled up to see him walking towards me, tongue-in-cheek, his eyes hazy and narrowed. He held his hand up to high five Chase.

“Hello, baby girl,” he said quietly, bending down and whispering in my ear in a chilling tone before sitting down on the table next me, inches away. I let out a moan of frustration before throwing him a dagger stare. He rubbed his finger in-between his lips slowly, while his eyes were on my bare legs.

I felt myself blush. I hated that my body reacted to him in a completely different way than I wanted it too. I pushed my thighs together, turning my boots inwards, trying to cover myself somehow.

“Don’t shy away from me,” he said curtly. “My eyes are allowed to roam your body.” He smirked, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth.

“Only for this last year at school, then I’ll be rid of you,” I spat, shaking my head as I picked my pencil up and started tapping it on the wooden exam desk.

“Ha.” He laughed a little louder than I would’ve liked. “I’m not going anywhere, grunge, mark my words. You will never get rid of me. I am here forever, baby,” he said in a threatening manner.

The thought of having him in my life out of school was soul destroying. I needed rid of Conor Royce, once and for all.

“Okay, quiet down,” Mr Spink bellowed across the hall. “You have three hours, your time starts now.” His balding head shining from the hall lights. He pushed his glasses up his nose as he started his walk down the aisle. I instantly relaxed, knowing that Conor couldn’t talk to me for three hours.

And it was bliss.

DARCEY

I walked out the exam room to find Robyn standing against the wall, waiting for me.

“How did it go?” she asked as we started walking down the corridor.

“Yeah, not bad. It’s done now, isn’t it? Not much I can do.” I let out a giggle. “You?”

“I think alright.” She scrunched her nose up. “Like you say, not much we can do now.”

“Exactly.” I smiled, wrapping my arm round her and pulling her into me. “It’ll be fine.”

We went out for lunch as we had a free period before our last lesson, it felt good getting out and away from Conor for a while. We walked towards a little coffee shop, just outside the school gates, which was a usual hang out for us all.

I sat cradling my iced latte, waiting for Robyn to join me at the table. She smiled as she walked over, dragging her chair out and sitting opposite me. I rolled my neck, running my hand round the back of it.

“You okay?” Robyn asked.

“I am, I just feel so tense. Think I’ve been more worried about the exam than I liked to admit.” I nodded, twirling my cup round in my palms.

“Is it just the exam?” Robyn asked, tapping her fingers on the table.

“What do you mean?” I acted dumb, I knew what she meant.

“Conor,” she replied bluntly, pressing her lips into a thin line, her eyes on mine.

“No. God no. I hate him. And I can’t wait to tell him how much I hate him.”

“Love, hate or just pure hate?” She smirked at me then took a sip of her tea.

“Oh, pure hate.” I nodded confidently.

“Mmhmm,” she muttered quietly, taking another sip of her tea. I just rolled my eyes.

I was so grateful when our last class was over, I felt exhausted and it was only Monday.

I stood at the bus stop after hugging Robyn goodbye and agreeing to meet up on Wednesday for a catch up.

I popped my ear phones in and tried to blend in, away from his highness. He came crashing down the narrow bus aisle with his arm wrapped round Marie, licking his lips as he walked past me. He literally made my skin crawl, but I was glad that he was pre-occupied because that meant that he would leave me alone and hopefully go back to his swamp, instead of coming to our house again.

I ran off the bus, then walked quickly with my head down, making my way towards my house. And as per, Conor, my brother, and now Marie, were also behind.

Great.

I didn’t stop to speak to my mum, just ran straight upstairs, slamming my door behind me. I couldn’t cope with him in my life like this, day in and day out. It was exhausting.

I kicked off my Doc Martens, throwing them across the room then loosened the knot in my tie, when there was a knock on the door. I huffed, swinging the door open to see Conor standing there.

My heart started racing.

I couldn’t help but let my eyes trail up and down his body.

In the year that I first met him, he was scrawny; nothing more than a handsome face. But now, he was toning himself up, his muscles more defined.

He was hot.

So, so hot.

“Baby girl,” he muttered under his breath, leaning against my bedroom door frame, his leg crossed over the other and twirling his finger round in the palm of his hand.

“Conor.” I sighed, batting my eyes down to my socks.

“What’s got you in a mood? Is it because I’ve bought Marie back?” he said, stepping into my room, making me edge back towards my bed.

“No,” I said in barely a whisper.

“Then what is it?” he asked, his eyes narrowing in on me.

“You,” I said as the back of my knees hit the bed, making me fall onto it.

He leant down, kneeling on the bed, pressing his knee in-between my legs, smirking down at me.

My breath caught, my insides burned.

You can still want someone you hate, right?

“Admit you want me,” he said, winking at me, sliding his hand slowly up my thigh.

“I don’t,” I said as confident as my voice would allow.

“Then why is your body betraying you?” He licked his lips. “Your breathing has quickened, your lips are parted as if you’re waiting for me to kiss you, and you’re flushed,” he continued, leaning his mouth to my ear. “Tell me, are you wet for me, angel?”

“Conor,” I moaned quietly, wanting him to stop this, but also at the same time wanting him to carry on. I felt his weight shift as he knelt up, wrapping his long, thick fingers around the knot in my tie, pulling me up so our lips were nearly touching.

“Even though you’re legally old enough for me to touch you, it won’t happen. Not yet, anyway. Just don’t forget you belong to me, baby girl.”
