The Man I Thought I Knew (Two-Faced #1)(36)
Author: E. L. Todd

“And you and Carson?”

He grinned. “I don’t kiss and tell…but that woman’s got it bad for me.”

I chuckled, knowing he was joking. “I’m glad you guys worked it out.”

“She’s rough around the edges, isn’t she?” He crossed his arms over his chest. “But I wore her down. Got her to sleep over the other night.”

“Yeah, she told me. It seems like you’ve got it bad for her.”

He shrugged. “Well, I’m not a chaser. That tells you everything you need to know.”

I was tempted to ask him about Carson’s suspicions, but I kept it bottled inside. He was charming and easy to talk to, so he seemed completely harmless. It seemed unlikely that he had anything to hide, that he wasn’t what he seemed. He probably just had personal issues, and those issues were no one’s business.

Carson

I sat at the dining table, working on my articles when Charlie walked inside.

He had a pizza under his arm.

“Oh, you’re my hero.”

He grinned as he came farther inside, revealing Dax behind him a moment later.

“I was hoping I was your hero, sweetheart.” He walked inside, all confident and tall, looking at me with affection in his eyes. He was in jeans that hung low on his hips, a t-shirt that showed off his sexy muscles, and that sexy shadow was along his jawline.

“Well, food takes priority over sex.”

Charlie set the pizza on the table. “Don’t take it personally, man.” He walked into the kitchen to grab plates.

His smile didn’t drop, and he leaned over to kiss me in the chair, greeting me like I was his woman and he was my man. He even slid his fingers into my hair, giving me a hot kiss with no regard to Charlie in the kitchen.

I melted like a grilled cheese sandwich in a hot pan. No man ever kissed me that way, lit my fuse on fire with only his heat. His lips were so good at those delicate kisses, even better at the passionate ones. His hand slid out of my hair as he pulled away.

I was knocked off my feet.

Charlie handed him a plate. “We got half combination and half pepperoni.”

Instead of making a comment, I just sat there.

Charlie raised an eyebrow as he looked at me.

“Sorry.” I shook my head. “Mind was in the gutter…”

Dax took the seat beside me, a slight smile on his lips.

Charlie turned on the TV, changed the channel to the game, and then joined us.

I shut my laptop and pulled a slice onto my plate.

“What are you working on, sweetheart?” Dax asked.

“A couple articles,” I said. “Nothing as exciting as the last one.”

“Did you tell him about the FBI?” Charlie asked before he took a bite.

We hadn’t talked in a couple days because I wanted to play it cool, so I hadn’t mentioned it.

“FBI?” Dax finished chewing his bite and stared at me.

“They came to the office with a subpoena,” I said. “Asked me to turn over all my files. I’m also a witness in their investigation.”

“Wow,” Dax said. “Is that good or bad?”

“Good or bad?” I asked. “It’s awesome. I get to testify in court.”

“And that doesn’t scare the shit out of you?” he asked incredulously.

“Why? I’ve got nothing to hide. I did my due diligence, fact-checked everything, and these assholes took money from good people. I’m taking them down.” I picked up a slice and prepared to put the end in my mouth.

He grabbed my wrist and pulled my hand away as he leaned into me. His mouth was on mine a second later, his fingers sliding into my hair, giving me a purposeful kiss that lasted a few seconds. He pulled back and gave me a soft smile.

Charlie looked away, staring at the TV so he wouldn’t have to see our affection.

“What was that for?”

He turned back to his pizza. “Because you’re fucking hot.”

When the game was over, Charlie grabbed the empty pizza box and headed to the door. “I’m gonna toss this.” He walked out.

Dax was beside me on the couch, his arm over the back of the cushions, his fingertips lightly pressing against the back of my neck. They slowly slid into my hair, gently touching me as he watched the commercial. “So, gonna invite me to stay, or should I take off?”

“You think I’m gonna let you leave without servicing me?”

“Servicing you?” He turned to me, a handsome grin on his face.

“Yeah. That’s your job.”

“Best job I’ve ever had.”

Charlie returned and cleaned up the plates at the dining table. He left them in the sink. “I’m going to bed. See you later.” He walked down the hallway into his bedroom.

Dax kept his stare on me, his fingers still moving on the back of my neck. “I’ve got one condition.”

“I think I already know what it is…”

“Yeah?”

“You get to sleep over?”

He gave a slight nod. “You’re quick.”

“Of course you can.”

“Good.”

I turned off the TV and the lights, and we went into my bedroom, which was across the hall from Charlie’s.

He walked inside and pulled his shirt over his head. “This is what I don’t understand.”

My eyes immediately went to his hard body. His beautiful, gorgeous, perfect, hard body.

“How does a straight guy live with a gorgeous woman like you and not lose his goddamn mind?” He grabbed my top and lifted it over my head before his fingers dug into my hair, cradling my head, possessively me entirely now that we were behind closed doors. He stared at my lips as he waited for a response.

“He doesn’t think I’m gorgeous.” My hands went to the top of his jeans and got them undone.

“Then there’s something wrong with him because you are fucking perfect.” He tugged my jeans down and gripped my ass cheeks with his large hands, squeezing them hard, handling me roughly, breathing hard, kissing my neck, backing me up to the bed.

My head tilted back, and I was instantly swept away in the heat, immediately drowning in his testosterone. I pushed his bottoms down and felt mine fall, kissing him and panting like we’d been at it for hours rather than seconds.

His hands guided me, gripping me tightly before turning me around and making me face the bed. His arms locked around my body, squeezing me like an animal, his breath heavy on my throat, loud in my ear. “You hear me? Fucking perfect.” He grabbed the back of my neck and forced my face down onto the bed.

I got on my knees with my ass in the air, listening to him help himself to my nightstand and grab a condom. He ripped through one, rolled it on, and then thrust inside me like a conqueror breaking down a door to demolish a civilization.

“Fuck…” I gripped the sheets on my bed and let out a moan at his harsh intrusion.

He pounded into me ruthlessly right away, making my bed shake so hard it sounded like it would fall apart any second. His hand returned to my neck, and he pinned me down while he shoved his entire length inside me over and over. “I know you can handle it, sweetheart.”
