Fight Forever(29)

“Fuck!” I hiss, grabbing her hips and stopping her movements. “I need a moment.”

“Can’t stop . . ..” She tries to move but I flip her onto her back.

“So bossy.” I smile down at her.

“Luke, I swear if you don’t move, now, I’m going to—”

“What?” I chuckle, pulling out of her and she whimpers.

“Please,” she whines, lifting her hips and her arms grab ahold of my biceps. I want to plow into her, but not yet.

“I want to make love to you,” I tell her, and she jerks her head up, her lust-filled eyes search mine.

“Let me make love to you,” I whisper across her lips and slowly ease inside her. She accepts all of me with a sigh that is music to my ears.

My movements are slow at first until she rocks her hips along with me, and the way her eyes stare back at me so intently, I know she’s making love to me, too.

I love you.

It’s at the tip of my tongue. I want to say it but instead, I kiss her passionately until our movements speed up and her insides tighten around me. She holds me tighter; her thighs pull me deeper until she breaks our kiss and her orgasm rips through her. She moans my name and I lose it, pumping hard until I release inside her, biting back the words I so badly want to say.

I love you.

I think I can see the words in her eyes. I felt it when she made love to me and moaned my name, but saying them now would only freak her out and I can’t take us two steps back when I finally got us one step closer to forever.

“Henry’s getting a divorce,” I repeat what Eric just shared with us moments ago. “Was he sleeping with a younger, richer woman?”

“Not that I can tell, but he is shifting money around. Probably trying to hold onto whatever he can of DeeDee’s fortune,” Eric says over his coffee cup.

“What does that have to do with me?” I ask, glancing out the back door to make sure the kids are still playing outside with Molly.

“It may be why he’s trying to get the kids; why he’s trying to ruin you.” Eric shrugs.

“It doesn’t seem likely,” Sarah says, looking as frustrated as I am. Her and Eric have both been hard at work trying to understand Henry’s motives, but so far, nothing adds up.

“So, you don’t have anything on Henry? Nothing that points to what he is up to?” Luke directs his question at Eric, who glares at his brother. The two have been pestering each other since Eric’s arrival. Luke has missed his brothers over the years and having them around more has made him happy. His blue eyes get bright with excitement when they come around. He is always asking them to come over or going to do something with them. He’s going to miss Eric when he heads back to Texas.

I always thought Eric was a quiet person but around his brothers he breaks out of his shell a little bit. He may act bullet proof but underneath that armor is a softy. I see his soft side whenever the kids are around, but mostly I see it when Sarah is around. I don’t think he ever stopped loving her. I’m starting to wonder if she ever stopped loving him too.

“I’ve only had a few weeks to look into this, but what I have uncovered doesn’t point to why he would be seeking out to ruin Amber. It would make more sense if he went after his wife.” Eric narrows his eyes at Luke, obviously offended his brother dared to question his abilities.

“What about his involvement with the fire claim?” Luke presses on.

“As far as I can tell, he only reached out the one time and hasn’t made contact since.”

“This is so frustrating.” I cover my face with my hands. “So, we are back to square one.”

“I know, I’m sorry.” Sarah rubs a hand up and down my back. I’m so thankful she is here right now. Even though she makes a point to visit often I miss her like crazy and I don’t know how I would be able to get through all this drama if she wasn’t leading the charge. “But don’t worry, he isn’t going to get custody of the kids, and Carl thinks he has enough evidence to get the insurance denial overturned.”

“I just want this over with,” I say, looking up at her.

“I’ve brought donuts,” Jax says, walking through the front door, completely unaware of the heavy conversation we’re are having, “and company.”

“Morning,” Warren greets from behind Jax, wearing his sheriff’s uniform and a smile aimed only at Sarah. Well this just got interesting.

“What are you doing here?” Eric asks through clenched teeth and if I wasn’t so annoyed over the Henry mess, I might’ve enjoyed the territory spats those two get into whenever my sister is around.

“I came to check on Amber.” Warren nods toward me then smiles at Sarah. “And see Sarah.”

“Check on Amber?” Luke glances between me and Warren.

“She had a flat the other day, and the man parked next to her car was spotted half a block from your house recently. The officer who reported it was on duty when I called the plates in,” Warren tells us, then points to the coffee pot. “Do you mind?”

“Yes, let me get you a mug,” I say, getting up and walking around the island. I completely forgot about the flat tire. Things got a bit spicy when I got home that night, and I completely forgot about it.

“What flat tire?” Luke asks as he stands and follows me to the cabinet, reaching over my head to pull down a mug.

“Umm, I forgot to tell you . . . but it’s no big deal. I’ll handle it later,” I try to sound casual. “My tire may have been slashed on Friday.”

“May have been?” Luke glares down at me.

“Well, we don’t know for sure, right?” I glance at McKnight for assistance, but he only shrugs.

“How do you forget a tire being maybe slashed?” Luke demands, not trying to hide the anger in his tone.

“I . . . I got distracted when I got home,” I hesitate to answer before glancing over at Sarah then Jax, who wiggles his eyebrows at me. Of course, Jax isn’t going to come to my rescue, he loves to see people squirm.

“With what? And why didn’t you call me to come help you with it?” Luke’s nostrils flare.

“Warren helped me change it.”

“You still should have called me.”

“I got home late, and you already left for Clint’s bachelor party,” I try to explain but hear Luke swear under his breath. “I didn’t want to bother you since Warren was there to help.”

“You should have called,” Luke says, pressing his lips together. “What was so distracting?”

“Yeah, Jax, what was so distracting?” Sarah cuts in, smiling like the cat who ate the canary at Jax.

“From what I heard, you ladies were happy with my distraction.” Jax smirks back, a half-eaten donut in his hand.

“I hate to interrupt—”

“Shut it, McKnight,” Eric snarls, then looks at Jax. “What the hell did you do?”

“Relax. I just got Dawn an early wedding present is all.” He takes another bite, nearly stuffing the rest of the donut into his mouth.

“What kind of present?” Luke demands, putting a hand on my waist so I can’t go anywhere. Yep, he’s going to be even more mad in a minute.
