I froze and met his gaze. “She’s your cousin?”
“Essentially,” his smile grew as relief flooded me. I tried to keep the smile off my face, realizing we were still holding hands.
I squeezed it and nodded, “Well, that’s good. I mean, having family is always good.”
“Lorcan,” his voice went serious and he spoke softly, “the only person’s… training that I am focused on is yours.”
Yeah, we weren’t talking about training. I flushed like a goddamn teenager. “Cool. Very cool.”
“I should go check that I have everything I need.” He took a small step back, and I suddenly realized just how tall he was.
“Same,” I mumbled.
His eyes heated, and he brushed a kiss against my forehead before walking out of the room, his face as flushed as mine.
We were goddamn sirens and acting like fucking awkward teenagers. Seriously? You would think two sirens together would be all fucking sex. Nope. Instead, I was blushing and feeling stupid as hell. Man. What the hell had I gotten myself into?
Taking a breath and walking out onto the balcony, I gripped the hot stone underneath my fingers. My head pulsed slightly, the star calls oddly silent tonight, as I searched the sky. Despite feeling flustered, exhausted, and worried... the largest thing that stood out to me was so much stronger than any of those: determination.
Determination to heal.
Determination to be more open.
Determination to make sure nothing ever happened to the people I loved.
No matter how many goddamn neon tears I had to cry in the process.
