Falling In (Maple Cove, #1)(36)
Author: Cassidy London

He chuckled. “Relax. I was going to say it makes me want to see if our connection is just as strong without any drama.”

I breathed a sigh of relief.

“Why? Did you think I wanted our engagement to be official?” He chuckled again, reaching down to gently brush his lips across mine. “It’s a bit early for that, sweet kitten. I haven’t even been inside you yet.” Matt murmured in my ear.

I shivered at his words and the taste of him on my lips. “Don’t tease me…it was hard to see where you going with that comment…” I trailed off as he kissed me again, a little harder this time. I barked playfully, punching him in the arm. “Things have been crazy and confusing lately.”

Matt pulled back from the kiss but continued running his hands through my hair. “They sure have. Why don’t we get ready and head back to the city tomorrow morning?”

“Really? What about Dave?” I asked. “Can we really leave him alone?”

“Listen, as much as things have been good between us, better than ever actually,” Matt acknowledged, “he doesn’t need a babysitter. Besides, he told me that he wants to visit his sister and her family out in British Columbia. Told me earlier that he’s looking to head out in the next couple of days.”

His words surprised me. “Really?”

Putting his arm around me, he led me into our bedroom as he spoke. “Yeah. Besides, I have to get back to work. I’ve been gone too long.”

That was certainly a true statement. I knew he was drowning in paperwork and had cases with upcoming court dates.

“We’ll head back to the city, spend some quality time together, but just remember that you need to give me a couple of weeks to work on your case.”

“I’m a case now? Great.” I rolled my eyes in mock annoyance.

Matt jumped on the opportunity. Pushing me down on to the bed, he climbed on top of me. The weight of him sent a shot of adrenaline coursing through my bloodstream as his head dipped in closer. Matt’s breath was hot and urgent in my ear. “You sure are, angel. And believe me when I say that I can’t wait to pull an all-nighter on this one. I feel like we have so much work to catch up on.”

The next morning, we were up early. It didn’t take us long to pack up and say goodbye to Dave. Matt had booked him a flight out to B.C. for the following day.

As thrilled as I was to have more time with Matt, I had to admit that I was afraid of what his plans might entail. All I had wanted to do after the reading of the will was run away back to NYC and forget all the drama and emotional bullshit that came from being around my family. If I could even still call them my family…

“You’re really quiet, angel.” Matt said softly, reaching for my hand as we sped down the highway.

“Just wondering what your plan is with the will, and how taxing this is going to be. Will I have to take them to court or something?”

Matt sighed. “Not going to lie. It is possible, but I’m going to try and go the mediation route first, okay? I know that you don’t need any more stress. But what I do want is for you to remember why we’re doing this.”

“Because you said you had an idea?” I countered.

“No, Carly, because your mother wouldn’t have wanted her kids to be pitted against each other, right? You all have a right to this inheritance, but it shouldn’t be forced upon on you in such a way, regardless of your dad’s wishes.”

Still staring out the window to hide the tears that were threatening to fall, I simply nodded.

“And walking away from the money is not in your best interest. As much as I could help you instead, it’s your money and you have a right to it.”

Swallowing back the emotion, I giggled and tried to make light of it all.

“And I won’t let you help me, soo…”

“Exactly!” Matt chuckled. “See? If you’d just let me pay your bills, we could forget the whole thing.” He joked.

I poked my tongue out at him, my emotions finally turning the corner into silliness. “Never!”

“Don’t poke that delicious little tongue out at me without backup, little kitten… You know what happens when I feel like you’re getting feisty.”

I heard the tone in his voice drop a level and my heart skipped a beat. The last night we had been together was sweet and simple, but something about his voice made me feel like the next time wouldn’t be. After all, we were headed back to his apartment, and we would be alone together for the first time since that night we had spent at the Inn. My body shivered involuntarily at the thoughts swirling around in my head.

I couldn’t help it. I bit my lip and exhaled consciously. “Better keep your eyes on the road, big boy.”

“No worries, little kitten, my eyes are on the road, but that doesn’t mean my hand has to be.” He continued as he unbuttoned my jeans and slid his fingers into my panties.

“Lift your hips and pull down your jeans.” He commanded.

“Mm…not sure that this would be considered safe driving.” I teased.

I giggled as Matt’s eyes squinted and he growled back at me. “Carly, fuck, you’re killing me here.”

Pulling off my jeans and taking my already wet panties down with them, I sat fully exposed with his hand between my thighs.

“Keep those jeans around your ankles, feet up on the dash, and slide those knees open, baby.” He commanded as his hand briefly slipped away from me and down the side of the seat to the control button.

The motion of the chair moving startled me. “Oh my god! Seriously, Matt, way to make it super obvious!”

“Keep arguing with me and I’ll have to punish you when we get home.”

My insides bubbled. “Home? Is that what we’re calling it now? Don’t push your luck, Matt Harris. This is only temporary.” I bit my lip as I spoke. I was making shit up and loving it. My heart raced even faster as a dark cloud shrouded his eyes. Sure, this was technically temporary, but it was also racing toward an uncertain end.

“You want certainty, Carly? I’m certain you’re going to regret those comments.” He continued, his hand now back between my legs, his fingers slipping inside my aching pussy. It felt so good, I arched into his hand, trying to take more and more of him.

“So how did you get this wet, little kitty, when all I seem to do is aggravate you?”

Matt’s words were like gasoline to a burning fire. With every syllable, he had me ready to beg for more. “Mm… not sure, but maybe it’s because I like it when you threaten to punish me…”
