Affinity (The Salvation Society)(39)
Author: Harlow Layne

“Um . . . ” I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to tell her we were going to try a relationship when we weren’t even twenty-four hours in, and we’d fought multiple times already.

“I was going to call you once we got home, and as you can see, we just got here.” He gave my shoulder a squeeze, causing me to smile over at him.

Tapping her fingernail on the chair arm, Catherine asked. “Where have you been?”

“I took Abbi out to eat. It was a late lunch, early dinner. Shit,” he jumped up. “I forgot the leftovers in the car. I’ll be right back.” Jenner sprinted out of the room.

“Does he seriously think he can avoid me forever?”

“He’s not, I promise. He ordered a huge amount of food, and it was too good to go to waste.”

“She’s right,” Jenner interjected as he walked in and placed the food in the refrigerator. “I really was going to call you, but we were having a bonding moment.”

He sat back down next to me. Closer than ever. I was surprised he didn’t pull me on his lap and grind up against me.

“I can see that. While I’m happy you two are getting . . . along, I’m here because there are rumors you were fired from Alpha Blue after a huge blow-up.”

“Not true,” Jenner said at the same time I called out, “They’re lying.”

“And you know this how, Abbi?” She rose her eyebrows again. Her lips had thinned out, causing me to sweat. Damn, she was intimidating.

“I went with Jenner this morning. We’ve spent almost every minute together today, so I know there was no blow up. I was there when Jane told him, actually, and it’s the most ridiculous thing ever. The whole cast thinks he’s cursed.”

I felt Jenner’s body shake next to me. “No one feels safe with me on the set, and Jane promised she would make sure Rick didn’t talk to anyone calling about a recommendation.”

“Okay, I’m going to call Jane and ask for them to make a statement approved by me. We can’t let people think you went ballistic. You won’t get your movie if they think you’ve been acting up again.”

“Sounds perfect.” Jenner jumped up again. “If that’s all, we have some things to attend to before we go to bed.”

Catherine rolled her eyes with a grin on her face. “I’m happy to see the both of you are getting along. I guess it won’t be hard to do your weekly mandated dates out in public.”

“We had our first one today,” Jenner proudly announced. “And now that I’ll have more free time—”

“Let me stop your right there,” Catherine interrupted him. “You seem to have forgotten Abbi works for me and will be at the office bright and early on Monday morning.”

Jenner’s face fell as he crossed his arms over his chest. It was sweet he wanted to spend more time with me, but if we were together twenty-four-seven, he would get tired of me.

Standing, I went to him and placed my hands on his bulging biceps. “But I will be coming home every night. Maybe you can cook dinner while I’m at work.” I smiled at my joke. The only food he would be producing was by calling it in. Even with having to go to work, I could throw some ingredients in a crockpot before I left in the morning, and we’d have something to eat when I got home.

“Maybe Abbi can work from home for the foreseeable future?” he asked hopefully. “I don’t think she’s ready to be driving with the paparazzi on her tail yet.”

Taking a step back, it was my turn to cross my arms over my chest. “I’ll be fine.”

Catherine gave me an appraising look. I didn’t want to lose my job before I ever got to sit behind my desk.

“If you’re so worried about her, why don’t you drive her to work?” she challenged. I loved how she never backed down, and I knew I’d learn a lot from her once I finally got to start working next week.

“Is that all?” he questioned again. This time his tone was less than friendly.

“For now, but please don’t get yourself in any trouble while Abbi is at work.” Catherine stood, her purse on her shoulder and her phone already out. “It doesn’t matter what Alpha Blue says; there will still be people stating you acted out, especially with it already circulating.”

“I don’t think you have anything to worry about with Jenner. He’s been ideal.” I followed her to the front door.

“Good to know. Now I can go out on a date with my husband. He’s been gone for a few days, and I’ve missed him.” She gave us a wave before turning and disappearing down the sidewalk.

“Did you mean that?” he asked the moment I closed the door and locked it.

“Of course, I did. I wouldn’t lie to you or Catherine. I know she’s worried, and I wanted to reassure her that I’ve seen the man she told me was deep down inside of here.” I gave his chest a pat.

“Thanks for sticking up for me. I’m not used to it. I’ve only had Catherine and Alex on my side, so it feels good to have you there right along with them.”

It had to hurt to have the entire world always thinking badly of you. Jenner may have thought it was only us on his side, but I knew that wasn’t the case. Jane and Clara saw the real him, and I was sure there were others too.

“Thank you for being concerned about me.”

Wrapping both of his arms around me, he pulled me against his rock-hard body, making it nearly impossible for me to concentrate on his words. “If you want me to drive you to work, I can. At least until there’s another scandal, and they’re not waiting for you outside the gate.”

“I might take you up on that, big boy.”

“Big boy? I like the sound of that. You haven’t even seen the main attraction.” He wiggled his eyebrows at me.

“I hate to disappoint you, but I saw it the morning we woke up in Vegas. If I remember correctly, it wasn’t all that big.” I was lying to get a rise out of him. The weapon he had in his pants was indeed a weapon. After seeing it, I wasn’t sure how he hadn’t destroyed my lady bits as we consummated our marriage.

Grabbing me by the hips, Jenner lifted me in the air and threw me over his shoulder. His large hand made a resounding smack on my ass as he headed to his bedroom. “I’ll show you big, sweet cheeks.”

Laughing, I smacked his firm ass as he walked. He had fallen right into my plan.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” I nodded my affirmation as he laid me down on the bed. Why was he hesitating? “Just yesterday you wanted to take this slow. Not that I’m complaining, but I don’t want you to regret it in the morning.”

Lifting up on my elbows, I placed a kiss on the corner of his mouth. “The only thing I’m going to regret is if you don’t stick your dick in me. I want you, Jenner. I have for a very long time, so stop making me wait.”

“Those words are music to my ears,” he grinned down at me. “I’ve been dying to see what’s under your clothes, and to see your magical tits again. I hope this time we remember it.”

“I have no doubt you’ll make it memorable.” My hand slid under his t-shirt, and I let my nails scrape up and down his torso. “Take your shirt off. I want to see you.”
